How does one go about getting a job on campus? I'm talking about coffee shops, library work, office filing stuff--anything entry-level that would be likely to be open to someone with pretty much zero experience. Is there someone I should be buddy-buddy with? Are there emails to send out? I wanna get the jump on this, since next quarter starts in ( Read more... )

trufax: you don't need any skills, or even people skills to get an on-campus job. just be a student and don't kill anyone.

as for getting a job, I dunno if you're on work-study financial aid, but I'll assume not. usually they give priority to students with a work-study package so that might be why that douchebag gets that library desk job over you, even though they're a total slacker. I don't know how high demand is at your school, but usually anyone who wants a job can get onet. everyone goes for the library jobs because it's cushy, but your school's mailroom, cafeteria, admissions office, financial aid office, individual departments, etc... they all employ students, usually. just literally ask everywhere. even if they don't have a help wanted sign. waltz in and ask if they want some help this semester.

of course, you'll get a lot of "uhh... we aren't even looking for someone" but I still think this is the best way since I don't think many students literally just go in and ask. you probably won't need a resume or cover letter, at least not for an on-campus, working for the school job.

disclaimer: I go to a tiny liberal arts college in the woods. things might be really different where you are lol.
