Hi all, this is my first post to this community. I'm a huge TOKIO fan from a few years back and I'm glad to see that they have their own community on LJ! They don't seem to be as popular as the other guys in Johnny's sadly (online at least, they're very well accepted in Japan :D).
Anyway, I hope this is okay to post, I saw them in concert last night at Osaka Castle Hall (05.3.20) and here's my report:
I got there a bit early, maybe about ten of 5. I bought goods first, I bought the pamphlet, shopping bag (kind of plain IMO =X It's black with the concert logo on it in white), the jet ballons (ジェット風船), and a Taichi uchiwa. I kind of wanted to buy more, but I refrained myself. The pamphelt's really nice, I haven't gotten a chance to read any of the articles, but I'm sure they'll be interesting. ^_^
Anyway! For some reason, they let us in 10 minutes late (I think there was some problem inside, the security guys just kept asking us to wait and apologized for the trouble). So they finally let us in and I sat on a chair outside the actual arena and ate a snack and watched the crowd flow in. I saw tons of guys actually. o.O Way more than any other Johnny's concert I've been (I've seen Arashi, V6, NewS, Ohno Satoshi's solo concert). I was really surprised actually! I got to my seat and the show started! The best part is the lights going off because it's just the whole arena lit up with penlights (interesting note -- Johnny's made a new penlight, doh and I just bought the old one a few months ago -- it's circular shaped and it's red and blue and the red kind of swirls in the blue, yeah, that makes no sense, sorry XDD;;). The music started and they opened with "for you." Kind of an interesting choice but I really like the song so what's not to love? XD
I didn't recognize the second song (I feel I should have =X) but it was really good! It was still on the lower key side of things though. (Kind of interesting that they didn't start off with "Ashita wo Mezashite!" or something really upbeat) But the third song was "AwM!" and that got things going! Tomoya's really good live, he screams and all and he never gets tired. XDD They did brief intros after that, just the "yoroshiku!" / "saikou no omoide wo tsukurou zee!" stuff. XDD Then they did a few songs written by the members by themselves: the one by Mabo was really good! I can't remember the name right now, it was in English, "Bet something" (I have such a bad memory -_-) and the one by Tatsuya was pretty good too, Starving Man or something like that. Joshima Song was a lot of fun -- it was all hyper and upbeat and they sung about each other, it was really funny. XDD
I have a really bad memory with song order so I'll just run through the song perfs I remember and that stood out. Save as... was pretty good, they had nice pictures on the screens for that song. The only song off 5 AHEAD was Symphonic (no Kanpai or Message ;_;) but it was so good. They had a string groups there and it sounded great! I love the haunting nature of the song. Otokotachi no Melody was cool, the guitar sounded great raging live. XDD
The MC was a lot of fun. They talked about various things, everything from their bathing time at Osaka Castle Hall to their family members. XD I love MCs, they're the best part because you never get to see them just talking and being funny live like that just for you and the rest of the audience. Tatsuya also gave a special acoustic perf of "Yesterday's" for us! I really liked how Taichi was saying how they wouldn't lose to KAT-TUN or KJ8!! I cheered really loudly when he said that.
I really like hearing the really old songs being performed live because they seriously rock. LOVE YOU ONLY was awesome! I wish they'd rerecord that to be all rockish and all out. Tomoya let us sing along a bit "ONLY YOU!" and the chorus at the end of the song. Uwasa no Kiss was the same thing -- it just rocked out. "Kimi wo Omou toki" was really pretty, Tomoya crooned out the song very well. XDD SCREAM was all out ROCK, Tomoya went totally crazy on the harmonica too. XDD Transistor G Girl was pretty long! The band played the same notes over and over while Tomoya trained us to sing the "come on come come on come on" parts. That went on for awhile until he got to the actual song. Taichi played guitar on this song and joined Tatsuya and Joshima walking around the arena.
The last song before the encore was Mr. Traveling Man, I love that song. Then they left but they came out again of course! They sung "LOOP" and ended with "Jibun no tame ni" for the encore. After that they all left the front stage and walked around the whole arena. When they got to the back, Mabo reached out and touched a few girls' hands in the first row stands seats and a bunch of girls sitting behind me screamed like crazy. XD;; Then they bowed and thanked us and then exited at the back of the arena. Everyone in the audience cheered for another encore for a long time but they didn't come back. :\ Oh well! The concert was pretty long, 2 hours and 40 minutes or so.
I was really really impressed with this concert. All the songs were performed and played live and they all seriously ROCKED. That's the loudest [musically] concert I've ever been to and I loved it. There were no juniors, ugly fluffy costumes, this was a real rock concert and it's hard to believe TOKIO is Johnny's. I got a bit of a flavor of a concert like this with V6 since they had a live band that played a bunch of tracks, but the whole thing here was live and I loved it. No dancing, no cheesiness, just great songs and great performances. Plus Tomoya never lip-synchs and that really says something about him as a performer. I'll probably have to wait 2 years to see them live again, but I know the wait will be worth it.
