Rough waters ahead...

Classes are almost over, however the final weeks of this semester could prove to be the hardest ones yet. I finished my pre-student teaching observations this week, and had an interesting experience doing so. I was working with  2nd graders at a school that I've determined to be less than optimal. This school is filled with children that are very "rough around the edges" if you will . I had one student hit another student across the face with a yardstick (leading child number 2 to get several stitches). Why, do you ask, did child number 1 hit child number 2? No real reason, I believe... child number 2 accidentally stepped on the heals of child number one... who retaliated with a vengence.

There was also a teacher, who told me I was useless because I don't plan on actually teaching in that particular county. I was really upset, and emotionally hurt by her harsh words. I believe I really need to work on defending myself. I tend to let people, especially those that are higher on the "work ladder" than myself, walk all over me. I'm weak, physically, mentally, emotionally, and these aren't traits that will help me be successful in teaching. What to do, what to do?  I don't feel welcome anymore, not at that particular school, and that frightens me. I will be spending 8 weeks at this school, attempting to learn, while in reality, I may be worrying more about surviving than the teaching, and that really bothers me. I want to give my full attention to my students, but I'm worried that I won't be able to do this while at this school.
