There Be Raydors and Flynns Here Part 3

Pt 3

They heard her heels well before she appeared in the murder room. So, everyone’s eyes were focused on the door as she entered.  They had assumed it was Chief Johnson but instead it was a younger Detective from FID and she didn’t stick around.  She didn’t glance left or right and she didn’t say anything to anyone.  She simply walked straight to Andy Flynn’s desk, set the card in her hand down and told him to there at 6 PM or else.  Then she spun around and walked back out of the room.

Flynn carefully picked up the card and glanced at the front.

It was a business card for the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades.  Frowning Flynn flipped the card over and a slow smile crossed his lips. On the back was a simple printed message.

“Your ex-wife is a manipulative….Be at the club at 6 PM or I swear I’ll make your life miserable. SR.”

He couldn’t help but chuckle at the fact that someone else saw his ex-wife the same way he did, and that that particular someone was a woman who would have normally had his ass for saying anything “sexist” against women.  He also couldn’t help but chuckle at the fact that she hadn’t come down here herself, instead sent one of her underlings, which made him wonder just what the hell had happened and how pissed off was she.

“So, Flynn what the hell was that,” Provenza asked nodding to the door  the female detective went through.”

“Don’t know for sure yet but I know it has to do with my ex.”

Provenza grunted. They all knew about Flynn’s ex-wife, and what they knew was that even if Flynn hadn’t had a drinking problem she would still be his ex-wife.  She just liked to play the martyr and blame everything from their marriage on Flynn and his drinking.

They also knew that she didn’t let him see his youngest kid that often, and when the others had been home she hadn’t let him see them either. She was also married to one of the most expensive lawyers in town now.  He wasn’t one of the best, just one of the most expensive.

“So, she summons and you’re going to jump,” Provenza asked. “And why the hell did a detective from FID bring you the message?”

“It’s not from Monica,” Flynn said absently as he picked up the phone. “Hey what was that chick’s name anyway?” Flynn asked the room.

Tao and Provenza both shrugged, Sanchez just looked at him and Gabriel was frowning.

Flynn frowned now as well, “None of you know her name?”

They all shook their heads.

“Well, apparently neither do you,” Gabriel grumbled, causing the others to chuckle.

“Cut me some slack here,” Flynn said and dialed the operator instead.

“Yeah, this is Flynn in Major Crimes. I need the number for one of the female FID detectives.”

He listened for a few minutes then made a reply.  “No, she was actually a detective, young too.” He listened again then nodded his head. “That’s maybe her. I’ll give her a try. Thanks.”

He held on as the line was connected and then smiled at her short answering of the phone. He was pretty sure it was the woman who had come down because her voice sounded the same.

“So, how pissed is she?” He asked and heard a loud sigh on the other end.

“I wish you guys would just back off sometimes. It’s really hard on us when she gets this mad,” the woman said. “I don’t know what the hell you did, but I’m about ready to put a bullet in you myself,” she snapped at him.

Flynn chuckled, “It’s not me she’s pissed at so don’t go there. But if you want to shoot the culprit I can get you her address.” He said.

The woman on the other end sighed again. “She’s been upset for a couple of days now. Nothing bad, just not happy.”

This caused Flynn to smile. Happy wasn’t a word that he would have associated with the head of FID.

“She doesn’t talk to any of us unless she absolutely has to and that tells all of us just how upset she is.”

Flynn’s brow wrinkled at that statement. “What does that mean?” he asked.

“Look Flynn, I know you guys don’t like us. But in here we’re family and she makes sure she communicates and takes care of all of us. If we have problems either professional or personal we know we can go to her.  She’s like….”

“Mom,” Flynn said before he could stop himself.

“Yeah, Mr. Smartass, she’s like mom.” The woman snapped and Flynn chuckled.

“I didn’t mean that in a bad way, so get off your piss pot and tell me if I’m going to have to frisk her before our meeting.”

“I would,” the woman on the other end huffed before  he heard the line go dead.

He looked at the phone with his mouth open because he couldn’t believe she had hung up on him.

“So?” Provenza asked.

“I still don’t know but I’ll let you know as soon as I find out.” Flynn said then he put his phone down and went back to work.

“Hey Flynn it’s almost 4:30 ,” Tao said grinning at the others in the room.

Flynn sighed and nodded his head. He knew they were all making fun of him because they thought his ex-wife was pulling his strings.  It would be worse if they knew that it was Sharon Raydor pulling them.

He got up, put his gun and phone on his belt, and started moving to the exit.

“I’ll see you guys tomorrow,” he said, “And try not to catch a case in the next couple of hours, please.”

The guys all laughed as he left the room.

It was 5:50 and he still wasn’t here.  Sharon frowned as she glanced once again at the clock on the wall.  She was expected in the dining room in 10 minutes and Andy Flynn wasn’t here yet.

“Shit,” she mumbled and then jumped at the low chuckle next to her ear.

“They probably don’t like that kind of language here.” Flynn said softly in her ear.

She turned around to face him and found that he was indeed right behind her, causing her body to brush his as she turned.

“They don’t mind it at this club. It’s at my father’s club that I would be scolded like a little girl for that kind of language.”

Flynn chuckled and the leaned back to her ear. “So, you want to tell me what’s going on and why I’ve been summoned.”

Sharon leaned back as if she had been slapped. “I didn’t summon you,” she said defensively, her eyes blazed.

Flynn’s lip curled a little then he forced the smile from making an appearance.  Sharon Raydor was extremely pissed off.

He gently placed his hands on her arms and looked into her eyes.

“Sharon, calm down.  I have a feeling I’m suppose to be your backup.”

She sighed attempting to take a calming breath and Flynn smiled.

“You want to tell me what’s going on?” He asked again.

Sharon sighed once more before glancing at the clock

“In short…”

“You already did short in your note Sharon,” Flynn chuckled.  “I’m going to need a little more.”

Sharon rolled her eyes.  “Your son has no backbone when it comes to his mother and my daughter is in tears because of it.  It’s her wedding and I’m expected to pay for the damn thing but your wife…”

“EX-wife,” Flynn corrected.

“Fine your son’s mother is trying to make this whole damn thing about her and her status in society.”

Flynn sighed. “Where’s your gun?” he asked out of the blue.

Sharon glared at him.

“I’m serious Sharon. I know my ex-wife and I’d like to think that I’m getting to know you. More importantly, I know Mel, and I don’t want her mother on trial for shooting an unarmed mega-bitch.”

Sharon’s laughter caught him by surprise, but it sounded good to his ears.

“Your gun Sharon,” Flynn said chuckling. She reached into her purse and pulled it out.  Flynn noticed several people’s eyes go wide.

“Stay calm we’re both police officers,” he said showing his badge before turning back to Sharon.

“I assume this meeting place was Monica’s idea.” He said and Sharon nodded.

“Yes and it’s not a meeting.  It’s a planning.  She and her husband are insisting that the wedding be held here.”

“Mel has other ideas?” Flynn asked.

“Yes, Mel has had her dreams set on a nice quiet wedding held at Angelo’s since she was sixteen.”

“Angelos?” Flynn asked and Sharon snorted. “I’ve never heard of it.” Flynn says.

“That’s your ex-wife’s issue,” Sharon said and then looked once again at the clock.  “We have to get in there.”

“Are Tony and Mel going to be in there as well?”

“Yes, but I have a feeling it will be me against your ex-wife. That’s why you’re here.”

Flynn couldn’t help but laugh. “Who would have thought I’d be the one backing you up, ever?”

Sharon frowned at him and then moved to the dining room.

Flynn moved with her and placed his hand on the small of her back as they entered the dining area. Sharon shot him a small smile over her shoulder before glancing around and spotting Mel at a table with the others.

She gently grabbed his hand and began moving towards the table.
