Party Time!

I was a busy weekend! On Saturday we celebrated Robbie’s and my birthday by having friends and family over for a party. John C, Bob & David, Wilf & Alex, Joann & Alex (and their two kids, Matthew and Alessandro), as well as Alex’s mother, Doris, and sister, Evelyn, were on-hand as well. Chan and Brian stopped by for a bit, but weren’t able to stay long. They were preparing for the next day’s event.

So a little over a dozen people. We started out on the front porch, but between the breeze and lack of sun, we soon retreated with most of the porch furniture to the back garden where we were protected from the wind. When the sun did come out, it was quite warm and comfortable.

As usual, there was way more food on hand than necessary. I had planned for burgers and hotdogs, but things got more complicated than that in no time! There were all kinds of salad dishes, pork slabs, and copious amounts of liquids to drink as well. Our refrigerator will be overflowing for some time to come, I think.

Everyone seemed to have a good time. It was a very laid back experience for us all, except for Joann & Alex having to deal with two demanding kids. Robbie was running around playing the mindful host and helping Wilf with the cooking. He kept telling me to sit down and relax, which I appreciated very much. And I did! I ended up drinking wine and later almost three glasses of Evan Williams (unusual for me, but it happens once in a blue moon!). I really enjoyed myself as did most of the attendees, as far as I could tell.

It was Doris’s and Evelyn’s first time to our house and they seemed to be suitably impressed. As much as we love our house and try to keep it up, we forget sometimes how grand it really is compared to what a lot of people have to live in. We are blessed.

On Sunday there was another birthday celebration at Chan and Darrin’s house here in Woodstock. This party was somewhat larger and was exclusively gay oriented. Birthday boys were John C, John E. Robbie and I. The same cast of characters at our party (minus family members from Toronto) was on-hand. Additionally there were Peter & John, friend’s of Chan’s, ??? & Andrew, Jim & Todd, John C’s Paul, and Dennis L. I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone else.

It was a nice party, except for the smoking that went on almost the whole time. Considering that the owners of the house are smokers themselves, I guess I can’t complain too much. When it got to me, I just went inside or out for a walk in the front of the house. With age, I am less and less able to deal with that stuff. Yuck. Ruins a good day for me.

Nevertheless, I am glad people enjoyed it, and the other party as well. It is great to have such a nice circle of friends to celebrate occasions like this with.
