Friday was our 13th anniversary! It's hard to believe that we've been together this long, Robbie and I. I guess we've become very comfortable with each other because the anniversary has become no big deal. Robbie had to work and since his days are usually quite long he was not home until almost 10 PM. Then we sat together watching TV when he suddenly decided he needed chips. Chips are normally verboten in the house, but occasionally he has a psychic need for ketchup chips.
He insisted I go to Sobey's with him on his chips run, and since it was our anniversary, I figured, what the heck. So we piled into the car and drove up the street to Sobey's grocery store. I'm not sure why he likes Sobey's so much other than the fact that he work there when he was a youngster. I guess that's all it takes. I keep pointing out to him that Sobey's seems to be having one recall after another for bad meat. My favorite store, Zehr's, has never had such a recall as far as I know. But that doesn't prevent Robbie from buying his chips at Sobey's.
As it turned out we got more than just chips, and wandering through the deserted store at that hour the night was actually kind of fun: a strange and unusual anniversary date, if you will. I loved it!
And I loved hanging out together and munching on the chips later when we got home. It's the small things that are important at this point in our lives.
We went to get the Christmas tree today. We got it from Turner's farm market on Highway 2 west of Woodstock. I go there fairly often to get fresh that vegetables and fruits, and Robbie wanted to get the tree there this year. We bought a beautiful fir tree, almost 7 feet tall and nicely shaped for our foyer. As usual getting the beast set up aligned properly and situated was an effort. These are the kinds of things that put our relationship to the test! But the tree looks lovely now and it's waiting for its decorations.
Apparently we can only put on the lights. Robbie's mother wants to decorate the tree. I actually thought it might be a good idea to let the children decorate the tree on Christmas Eve - something to keep them busy and out of the our hair. But on the other hand that might require a lot of supervision too.
The weather continues to be unseasonably warm here. We've had lots of rain, but no snow. We may end up getting some snow later in the week or after the weekend. I rather hope we do. For one thing I put all that work into getting the snowblower running. It be a shame not be able to use it!
