People are probably sick of hearing me say it, but it never ceases to amaze me how beneficial a little sunlight can be in my life! After a few days of cloudiness, the sun came out with a vengeance today and the temperature has risen up to about 15C, almost 60F, and it is a beautiful day.
I cleaned my office this morning, then mounted my faithful Raleigh bicycle and headed off for a ride in the bright spring air. Woodstock is hopping today, as it has been most every day this spring. It is yet another wonderful example of small-town Ontario. So many smaller communities in the province seem to be alive and vibrant. One rarely sees the kind of moribund little towns and villages here that seem to be so common in the US.
At any rate, I rode over to Southside Park and communed with the ducks and geese along the river there. It is dammed to make a small lake that is
lovely almost any time of year. I am amazed at the grass, though. It is closely cropped by the birdlife and resembles a well-manicured golf green. Well, except for all the bird doo-doo. There is a wooden bench right next to the water and I took the opportunity to stretch out and exercise my back while lying in the sun. It was heavenly!
I finally got up and continued my ride through town. I tend to try to avoid the heavily traveled roads, but Woodstock is a pretty good town for making one’s way around while avoiding the heavy traffic. I made my way to Coffee Culture, locked my bike to the street sign at the corner of Walk and Don’t Walk, and went in for a coffee and a cookie, on sale for $2.00. I got the dark roast brew because I have only recently learned that the darker the brew, the lower the caffeine content. What a deal for me! I love the richer flavour and benefit from the lower caffeine. Bonus!
So back to my theme . . . I am feeling absolutely great today! And basically I have been since my week in Minnesota where I was exposed to almost ten straight days of sunshine! Getting more exercise because of the good weather has got to be a contributing factor, but I must say, the sun is my good friend and brother! In spite of all the other grief in my life (and more on that at another time!) I am feeling fantastic! Get out and recharge!
