I think my beliefs are the same as yours. I believe that life starts at conception, and I'm personally anti-abortion, but I don't believe it's right for me to impose my beliefs on others... so I generally go Pro-Choice. Realistically speaking as well, the alternative of making abortion illegal has appalling consequences.

Anyways, I just wanted to say that the issue with contraceptive pills is likely because taking them can cause an abortion if you are pregnant as well. Like, if you're on the pill, and you get that 1% chance of being knocked up, and you keep taking the pill because you don't know you're knocked up (how would you notice anyways?), the fetus will likely self-abort as the pill will cause mutation and/or degradation of the fetal cells, thereby your body will attempt to terminate your pregnancy.

So while unlikely, the pill can kill post-preggo.

that's a fine reason to make a LOT of things the same as abortion. Tons of medicine has that side effect. So does smoking. So does eating too much tuna while pregnant.

really, it's just a poor attempt at creating a loophole so that religious organizations can get their hot tax break and still legislate morality over their employees.

I didn't say I agreed with it man. Hell, I take the pill. The pill is MY FRIEND!

I was just trying to give some perspective as to why conservatives may have an issue with birth control and put it on a similar playing field as abortion.

As an aside, are you serious? Does eating too much tuna while pregnant cause a self-abort? Shoot... I loves me some tunafish sammich...

No it doesn't but certain kinds of tuna (albacore, Yellowfin) for example are large, long living fishes at the top of the food chain. They absorb a lot of mercury and are a bad idea to eat while pregnant. The mercury can interfere with the development of fetal nervous tissue.

Birth defects, actually, but it's only certain types of mercury-high tuna and it's really theoretical.

Really, the point was that the sheer number of things that are bad for pregnant women is staggering, and they're all legal.

I'm not arguing your point. I get why the religious right is against birth control. I've read their book and everything. It's just that their problem with it is in no way factually linked to this argument. If they're going to try to legislate religion, it would be nice if they could at least use facts.

Actually, I found, that taking the pill will not effect a fetus in the chance you do get pregnant while taking the pill.

Somewhere like five years ago, I had an experience that made me think that taking the pill caused me to misscary.

The scientific documentation that I found (not much sadly) shows that if you get pregnant at all on Low-Dose birth control, than the BC has already failed ( ... )

Really? Huh... When I first started the pill, I was informed by my doctor that there was a risk of miscarry if I got pregnant on it. Maybe they effects of the pill (like the thinning of the uterus walls) make it more likely that the baby will be affected negatively in some way?

Not sure, but that's very useful information. Thanks for it!

One of my friends, his wife got pregnant while she was on the pill... The kid seems fine. Except, of course, that my friend is his father. That poor, poor child... :)
