eclecticmuses October: Dreams

Sep 28, 2008 20:59

Have you ever had a dream that felt so real that you had trouble realizing it was a dream? What was it about?

It feels like dying and if Rogue knows anything she knows what death feels like.

The prick of the needle against her skin stings but it's something she can dismiss. It's the injection of what is inside the needle--the almighty Cure--that makes her insides feel like they are on fire. It spreads out from the injection site and she can't help but scream as it invades her veins, suppressing what is uniquely her. They didn't tell you about this on the news, how it ripped through your body and nearly tore you apart.

The nurse just smiles and pats her arm, skin touching hers and there is no reaction. Rogue doesn't even have time to reflect on the fact that the woman should be wearing gloves. She just stares at the spot the woman had touched, the entrance to where the Cure slipped inside, changing her. She can't be Rogue but she's fairly certain she can never go back to being Marie either.

A single prick of the needle and suddenly she's become no one.

She wakes up moments later; the alarm ringing in her ears and reaches out to shut it off. It was just a dream. A nightmare. She hadn't gone into the clinic. They hadn't pricked her with the needle. She was still someone. She was still Rogue. It was just a dream.

Rationally she knows that. It doesn't stop her from checking for needle marks.
