#236. Respect

Raven Darkholme was often disappointed in her children. The horrible little first born that continuously tried to kill her. The annoying do-gooder who was probably off trying to be a priest again. And now this one, wallowing in self-pity. It was always such a let down when she saw them on these destructive paths. The human child she could care less what he involved himself in as long as he wasn't planning another assassination attempt on her life and Kurt wouldn't be useful to her plans for another year, maybe two. But this one, her daughter, needed to snap out of this lethargic state she'd been spiraling into for the last few months.

As soon as the annoying little bird left for her morning run, Raven slipped into Rogue's new place. She had to hand it to her daughter. She did know how to pick a place. The small feline on laying on the couch stood up and hissed at her. Raven hissed back and smirked as the kitten scampered into another room, most likely her daughter's room. "Running away from grandma. Tsk tsk tsk."

Raven made her way around the apartment, fingers sliding along the various furniture before stopping at Rogue's door. She pushed it open and sighed, disgusted, as she leaned against the doorway. "Get up."

Rogue blinked, startled for a moment at hearing her mother's voice. Finn scampered up onto the bed beside her, hissing in Raven's direction. "Go away," Rogue replied, not bothering to turn which really was her vital mistake. One should never keep their back to Mystique.

"I've never paid any attention to your little tantrums, baby." Raven sat down on the bed, growling at the cat. "What makes you think I'll start doing so now?" The annoying cat hissed again. "And do something about the little annoyance before I do."

Rogue turned over at that, pulling Finn close. "Don't ya dare touch him." She stroked the kitten's fur, trying to placate him. "He just knows I don't want ya here." She nuzzled him for a moment longer and then let him down, watching him scamper out of the room before laying back down. "Ya can let yourself out."

"Oh yes," Raven drawled, leaning forward and brushing hair from Rogue's face. "Simply lay there and wallow in your self-pity. He left you, little girl, move on." She leaned back, studying her nails. "He was never good enough for you. Too melodramatic. All your relationships are entirely too dramatic, Anna."

"Pot. Kettle," Rogue murmured, hugging the pillow tightly. "An' I still want ya ta leave."

"Baby, I'm not going anywhere until you stop acting like a petulant child." Raven fished the remote control from the bedside table. "Not even your annoying little friend will be able to make me leave. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she would approve of me staying."

Rogue turned over and grabbed the remote, dropping it off the bed on her side. "Then ya can have the same rules as her. Go an' do what ya want out there an' leave me the hell alone."

Raven laughed, picking up the small bear and adjusting the bow. "Anna, that may work on your friends but I'm your mother. I'm not leaving."

"Why not?" Rogue snatched the bear, holding it close. "Everyone else has."

Raven pulled her into a hug. "Think about that statement, little girl. I've never left you. The one who leaves is you. I've only ever wanted you home. With me." She stroked her daughter's hair, much like she had when the girl was young, after a nightmare. "Where you should be."

Rogue pressed her lips together, leaning into her mother for a moment. Finn walked back into the room, hissing again at Mystique and Rogue shook her head, pushing her mother away. "Nice try, Momma."

Finn jumped up on the bed and curled up in Rogue's lap. "I ain't supposed ta be with ya. Children leave the nest. Deal with it."

"Your manners could use some work," Raven stated, glaring at the purring feline.

"Only usin' what I learned from ya." Rogue scratched the kitten's head. "An' I'll start bein' among the livin' when I'm good an' ready. Ain't anythin' ya can do ta force me ta go faster."

Raven sighed and leaned back against the bed. "Very well. I'm not leaving until you do. The annoying bird and cat will simply have to deal."

"An' don't forget ta say hi ta Logan when he comes back. I'm sure the two of ya have some catchin' up ta do." Rogue grinned at the disgruntled noise her mother made. "Should be a real interestin' conversation."
