Rogue looked forlornly at the suitcase on her bed and then at the closet. "I can't do this," she muttered and sank down onto the mattress. This was her home, these were her friends, surely staying here would help her sort out all of her feelings easier.

"Except you know it won't. You'll just be endangering everyone," she reminded herself, and looked at her cellphone. If she was really adamant about the others knowing what had occurred she wouldn't have programed Magneto's--oh just stop it and call him Erik--number into her phone, wouldn't still be wearing the bracelet he'd given her for Christmas. Now her guilt was eating away at her, warring with the part of her that wanted to keep this information for herself. Lifting her hand up, she glared at the bracelet. "I never should have gone to Lord and Taylor in the first place."

Sighing, she got up from the bed and continued packing, choosing clothes that would be sensible for Maryland weather. I still can't believe I asked Mystique to use one of her safe house . She threw a couple pairs of gloves in the case before taking them back out again. And called her Momma. She frowned, holding the gloves in her hands and mulling over what to do with them. It's winter, stop bein ' stupid. She tossed the gloves back in and started on the rest of her possessions, sorting through what she wanted to take.

"Ain't like I'm leaving forever," Rogue berated herself, leaving one of the bears on the bedspread. "Just taking time off. To recuperate."

She zipped the bag closed and pulled on her coat. Tucking her cellphone into the pocket she sighed as she looked at the room, hating that this felt like an even worse betrayal than what she'd already done. "I'll be back," she promised, looking at her shelves of stuffed animals before shaking her head. "One foot in front of the other. Not that hard, Rogue."

Slowly, she made it down the stairs and loaded the suitcase into the trunk of the Mazda. She stuck her hands into her pockets, feeling the cellphone and bit her lip. What if he never calls? Wait. I don't want him to call. She shook her head again and shut the trunk with more force than necessary. I'm doing this so I can get him out of my head. Last thing I need is for him to call.

The easiest way to stop that from happening was to leave the phone here but that was how Rachel was supposed to reach her, so she needed to bring it. Or at least, that's what she kept telling herself. Sighing, she gave a little wave to the mansion and got into the car.

"I'll be gone one week. Two tops," she whispered, ignoring the nagging guilt in the back of her mind as she drove away from the place she'd called home for the last couple of years.
