Southland

Finally gave in to my curiosity and watched the first two eps yesterday. I thought it a good idea to start now with season 3 just started in US, so new stuff would be avalaible. I hope the risk that TNT cancelles a already only 10-part-show in midseason is rather low as I already lost my two new-show-favorites to the big networks. So in the end I hadn't the urge to turn away after 5 or 10 minutes as I had with most shows I tried out last year. That's definitely a good sign. I didn't fall high over heels in excited love either but that's only happening any ten years or so, so no need to worry.

In the end I can say I liked it enough to watch further. It wasn't as tough on me as I had feared from the previews although it might be a bit toughter then my usual taste of crime-shows. I don't quite get it right now why it was so praised by the critics. For me it looks rather like an avarage cop-show, nohign extraordinary, but I guess as most of the crime shows in US in the last decade or so were focussing either on the works of special crime unit or the forensics or both a show focussing on the avarage day-work of police-patrol is considered something refreshing.

Me it reminded a lot of T.J. Hooker, especially with the cop-veteran - rookie setting. So far the characters look promising enough with their backgrounds alhtough as usual I find the females a bit annoying, but they are still standable. As for the gay cop John Cooper - he's definetely the toughest guy on the force and in no way a clichee as so many other gay characters on tv lately. Not much hint of him being gay so far. I'm not sure if the bar he attended in the end of ep 1 should be a hint. It did not much look like a gay bar to me rather like one of this all-male-sports-bars where a man hangs around after work with his buddies, drinking a beer or two and talking about sports and politics.

Anyway I'll watch further but can John do me a favour, please? Find a nice boyfriend, marry him and take his last name? I'm so allergic against the name Cooper nowadays, especially if it comes with a officer attached. ;)

PS: Who the f..k had the idea to name the police dog with my last name, especially as it is one which no american would pronounce properly. It made my cringe any time.
