Looking back and looking forward.

I've been listening basically non-stop to Girl Talk for the last week or so. It's a solo project by a white kid from Philadelphia who releases mash-ups on a label called Illegal Art. I've found it's perfect for my gym playlist. Where else can you find pop music, dirty south rap, indie hits, classic rock, and industrial all on the same track?

It reminds me of what my brother might have done if he were still around. Drew had an amazingly eclectic music collection. I remember one of his quirkier setlists - Vietnamese folk music turned into Beatnuts, which gave way to Connie Francis, which became "Baby Elephant Walk", and then turned into the Parliament Funkadelics.

Next Monday marks the three-year anniversary of the crash. I really wish that I could go home for the weekend, but the Indy 500 is driving up plane tickets well beyond my budget. It seriously kills me to be so far from my family sometimes.

Speaking of anniversaries, tomorrow is the four-year anniversary of our wedding in Hawaii. (As usual, someone had to remind me.) I'm working a twelve-hour shift tomorrow for the graduation from hell, so we'll have to celebrate around that. Wooo, romance!

I leave for a six-day venue management course in West Virginia in about two weeks. Once that's done, I fly back to Phoenix, do laundry, and then head right back back to the airport to fly out to Costa Rica. If all goes well, I'll track down Brandon somewhere in Puerto Jimenez to begin a trek through Corcovado National Park.

Honestly, the thought of being unreachable by phone or work email in Costa Rica is almost as enticing as the prospect of sunning myself on a beach or sighting rare wildlife. I'm desperate for a break from the insane pace of this season. Fortunately, we hit the relatively quiet summer period just as I return, and I'll have about two months of office work before we gear back up for the full schedule of the 2011-2012 season.

Summer plans after Costa Rica are pretty nebulous. There's a major conference at the end of July in town, I'd still like to go to San Diego Comic Con if any tickets come up, and a trip to Indy is definitely on my to-do list. How about you, Livejournal? Anything planned for summer?
