Last year I posted on Facebook how if every day was Mother's Day we'd all be in hock to our Moms due to buying gifts, and how awful that would be. It was a throwaway line, but there was a little truth to that: we probably ought to celebrate our Moms more than we do, but at some point it would become tedious. Today I saw somebody post to her Facebook a nice Memorial Day tribute, and I thought it was much better than a long speech.
Memorial Day is more than just a three-day weekend or barbecuing with friends or waiting for a great sale at the local department store: it's about remembering and thanking those among us who made the greatest sacrifice so that we can enjoy the freedoms we hold dear. I hope you took a little bit of time out of the day to think about that, and if this prompted you to do that, all the better.
