Don listened intently to muffled sounds and then a sad voice, “Daddy?”
His heart lurched as he heard the tears in his daughter’s voice. “Hey sweet girl. Do you miss Daddy?”
“Uh huh…”
“I miss you too,” he sighed. “Daddy will be home soon, ok?”
A sniffle, “Ok.”
“Sadie…I love you.”
“Love you Daddy…”
He heard the phone click and ran his hand over his hair. Colby pat his back, “We got this. Go ahead home.”
Don raised an eyebrow, “You sure.”
Colby smiled, “Your little girl needs you. Go.”
Don grabbed his jacket, “Thanks. See you guys tomorrow.”
