Day 10
In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme.
Last year, I talked about my love of epistolary (w00t! Spelled it right this time!) story telling (stories told in correspondents) and asked for some recs and got a handful of lovely stories. So, I thought I'd do that again this year, this time with another favorite theme--Road Trips.
OMG! I L♥VE Road Trip stories. I love journeys and discovery, I love being stuck in a car/bus/train with someone and dealing with shit, I love the anticipation of the destination and the introspection of the mile markers. I love seeing new and wondrous places through a character's eyes. I love the road weary and lost. There's a song by Matchbox 20 (shut up!) that sort of articulates one of the things I love the most and would totally read a fic based on it *nudgenudge*
Just three miles from the rest stop
And she slams on the brakes
She said I tried to be but I'm not
And could you please collect your things
I don't wanna be cold
I don't wanna be cruel
But I gotta find more
Than what's happening with you
If you'd - open up the door
She said - while you were sleeping
I was listening to the radio
And wondering what you're dreaming when
It came to mind that I didn't care *
So I thought - hell if it's over
I had better end it quick
Or I could lose my nerve
Are you listening - can you hear me
Have you forgotten
*UGH! Who hasn't had that thought at least once while on a road trip with someone you loved the day before?
*sigh* Is it any wonder that road trips are the focus of the one novel I've finished and not one, but TWO of the short stories I'm working on now for a collection I hope to have out this year? *fingers crossed*
So, what's your favorite road trip story? Either written by you or others. Doesn't matter the fandom, if I haven't seen/read/listened to the fandom, I'll probably still give it a chance. That's how much I LOVE this type of stories!
