I CHANGED IT I CHANGED IT NOW I LOVE IT NOW I LOVE IT!
I wrote this the other day, and wanted to put it on here. But it should be posted by itself.
When you're not looking, the winter will come.
And when you're not listening, the Silence overpowers.
The man pulls his hat down and steps up to the podium.
"We hear the Silence in the wind. It surrounds and unnerves us - allowing us only half of what we normally are.
We hear the Silence in the flakes of snow falling to the earth.
Each flake carries the eerie sound of no sounds,
and we grow frightened as we watch our colorful earth turn the color of death."
(People hide away in their homes for noise.
They keep the sound waves caged in,
so that they'll bounce back and forth
from wall to wall to wall to filling their house with the comfort of NOISE.
"Don't leave the door open. We don't pay to heat the whole neighborhood.")
The girl in the parka turns to the boy with the mittens. She lowers her voice to tell him a secret:
"It's so cold."
He whispers back.
"Yes."
"The Silence rules us under an iron fist.
It freezes our lungs into the ground, highways, windshields,
and every icicle-laden Christmas Wreath that bares the words Joy to the World!
We wait in silent expectation for the glorious orb of light to burst
APART THE TOTALITARIAN RULE
of Old Man Winter, and his insufferable slave the Silence.
Come, oh Spring! Set us free, and burst our voice out of it's shell!"
the military stands up to cheer.
their arms frozen to their sides
they open their mouths, and release the harsh wind trapped in their lungs.
the man crashes to the ground.
Silence.
it's too late.
The girl stands on a snow bank on the side of the parking lot.
She throws her head back and screams into the freezing void.
"Silence, love." The boy says. "The world is trying to freeze us over.
Maybe if we stay quiet, we'll last 'til Spring."
