I've been off work for the last week and unlike most weeks off I've actually planned stuff and gotten things done.
I've started volunteering at the local castle ruins. It's very close and even though the medieval period isn't my strong point it's cool having a heritage site so near by. I've done some tour guide training, which was very interesting, and I helped hack away brambles. Unfortunately most volunteer dates are when I'm working, so I can't help out very often.
Me and
davegotsu had a joint will made. It makes sense to do it now that we own property. Considering the subject the meeting wasn't at all morbid and the man was nice and helpful.
We went to Coventry to see an exhibit on Ancient Egypt, which was quite good (obviously it didn't compare to the Tutankhamun display - but I didn't expect it to). We had a look at the rest of the museum - including a massive portrait of George III and a modern art exhibit about spines. Then we had a look at Coventry. The town hall has a rainbow flag on top next to the Union flag and further rainbow flags at the front say 'Coventry says no to Homophobia', that made me feel better about Coventry - a place traditionally associated with nudity and voyeurism.
cmannall came to visit and a group of us went to a concert. I wasn't very familiar with the acts, but it was good. There were a pair of laconic Americans, followed by a group of enthusiastic Americans (those being the two types of Americans). The headliner was Anna Calvi, a woman with a pretty incredible voice.
A man came and put in cavity wall insulation. It was a good deal, though it was a bit alarming to see someone standing on the porch roof, because we have no idea how much weight the porch will take.
We also saw Thor at the cinema (as I mention in the
other blog).
In fact I think I've watched less TV this week than I do when I'm working. That's probably a good sign.
