I have just finished the third book in the
Mistborn trilogy by
Brandon Sanderson. Don't worry the UK covers are (as ever) much better than the Tor ones.*
It is great! I have recommended these books at work and do the same here.
Brandon Sanderson's debut novel Elantris was very good. This trilogy is better, and it (or at least the first book) is the reason Sanderson was chosen to finish Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan's widow. The first book covers a plot arc that could fill a trilogy, the quick pace is exciting and refreshing. The next two books take the aftermath of the first and expand it. Reading the last book I feel like some many pieces have fallen into place, it's really very well done.
I'm also curious to see if anyone has/is planning to read any
Hal Duncan books. Especially Vellum and/or Ink.**
I enjoyed them and was intrigued. They weren't an easy read, but the books were fascinating and incredibly inventive. It's not like other fantasy you'll read, in fact it contains within it a range of subgenres. I'd quite like to read the Book of All Hours duet again sometime, but it'd be nice to have someone to talk to about it.
Incidentally
this website is bloody brilliant.
* I'm not sure why Tor have such awful book covers. Every time I see one I'm just struck by how 80s they look. I wonder if this just occurs at Tor, or whether it's a general trend in US book jackets?
**Though I imagine reading Ink without Vellum would be bloody hard.
