What was I thinking ???!!!

Last wed, I was hanging out with my friends, drinking coffee, joking, laughing, and then someone said it.

At first I was reluctant, but then it sorta sparked my curiosity. We were talking about the ear expasions one of my friends boyfriend has, and how he went about on getting them, his DIY version. That's what started it. So, we asked for more coffee mixers (those thin little straws) and proceeded to try and push them thru our regular earing piercings. It began as sort of a "let's see who can do it deal", and it ended with me having little straws thru my lobes. They seemed innocent enough. It did hurt while we were doing it, but we joked that it had to hurt or there would be no point in doing it. My boyfriend loved the idea of me having those things in my ears (he's weird, he bugs me constantly about him wanting me to pierce my tounge and get a tattoo, to wich I always reply with a big NO WAY). They kept on hurting, but the pain started to fade, just got a big pinkish, that was until saturday. While in L.A. I kept trying to loosen the straws, they seemed to be a bit stuck (I thought this was the reason for the tenderness), and I wanted to spin them around. After a while, they did, and I was very happy that they got free, so I twirled them all night. Today I awoke with my ears hurting again. I tried no to think about it, then I was writing my last post here, I touched my lobe, and liquid came out (gross). I got some tissue, and tried to clean it up, but it got worse, I finished what I was doing online, called my boyfriend to tell him, sorry but I may have to take the darn things out, and then my girlfriend to ask if the liquid thing was normal.
All the advice I got was to do what I thought was the thing to do (big help). I turned off my computer, and sat and kept trying to decide if I should leave them in or not. After a couple of minutes I went to look at them, and they didn't seem THAT bad, so I cut up some thiner straws I got, and went ahead and removed the one of the ones I had on. The sight was soo yucky. Blood and liquid and yuckieness. Carefully cleaned with tons of alcohol. I wasn't gonna put anything else in at this point, I was feeling pitty for my poor little earlobes, but then I changed my mind and put those little red suckers in there. I must have hurt my lobes 'cause more blood and goo came out :P (gosh this entry is the yuckiest ever) kept a cotton ball with alcohol on my ear until it stopped bleeding. So that was one of them. The other one wasn't so bad, no blood. I was finished and I went to lay down and watch some T.V. My parents asked me stuff, if i was ok, but I kept my lobe thing hidden 'cause I didn't want them to make me take them out, and told them only that I wasn't feeling to hot. I waited till my little sister came home, and explained my ear situation, totally expenting to get scolded by her. She didn't, and was quite helpfull and understanding. Even if she's just a year younger than me, she tends to know more about these sorts of things than me. After her advice on proper care of ear related issues, I think (hope) that this won't happen again. I have always been to chicken to put in a second pair of ear piercings, I hate blood and goo and saw this as an alternative. I only did the expansion idea beacuse I thought nothing icky would come out of it. There was no blood when I put them thru, so I didn't even think of it as an open wound (my flesh must have torn or something). And I betcha it got so infected in L.A. with me being so happy and twirly and all.

(Don't know why but now my throat and internal ear hurt too)
