[Robin has already been here long enough to know what's going on as far as the village mythos is concerned. There'd been alleged kidnappings from multiple dimensions, and all sorts of superpowered types are supposedly stuck here to act as an army for some omnipresent Big Brother figure. It would have been a transparent enough illusion if not for ( Read more... )

Interesting question. Maybe they just don't care. Maybe it takes more resources than they're willing to commit, or than they have, given the situation they're in. Maybe they're leaving them as evidence that people can, in fact, leave. Given the story they give us I'd place highest odds on the last one.

If I were a betting man, anyway. Hello, Dick.

[He's not entirely certain he's got the correct Robin, but he knows them all pretty well, well enough that he's willing to guess.]

[Well. This is suddenly awkward a lot sooner than Robin was planning.]

It probably goes without saying that they don't care. But if you're right and it's a PR move, then why don't more people question it? If it's staged, that makes it a more likely lie.

I don't use that name anymore. Hello, Superman.

[Even if it's kind of cool that Clark remembers all the little details like that. He's always been a little like Alfred when it came to the little things.

If it even is Clark. Robin's not going to go around dropping anyone else's secret identity just in case.]

[Clark's good at not wasting time when he wants to be.]

I'm not so certain people don't question it, in their own minds at least. It's just that no one wants to be the person who brings it up out loud.

I see... guess I'll have to get used to calling you "Robin" again. It's been a while, at least from my point of view.

[Clark would say that remembering everyone's "real" names in addition to their superhero ones is exactly the opposite of a little detail... but then, he's Clark. His civilian identity has always been more important to him than Bruce or Dick's were to them.]

Why not? People should want to be prepared for everything.

How long of a while?

[Sometimes, Robin misses Dick. It's just that Robin has more of a purpose. There's no sense in trying to juggle.]

[He's clearly displeased about having to say this.] Because there's nothing we can do about it, one way or another. You could say it's one more reason for us to take down the barrier, but I don't think anyone needs any more reasons.

Where I'm from... it's been almost a decade since you left that part of your life behind.

It's debatable that you've come closer than anyone else has at accomplishing it. Justice League members seem to be sent home as quickly as they arrive.

[..ew. 25. He'll probably start having all kinds of gray hair by then. If he even still has hair at all.]

If you're about to tell me about a life attending board meetings and wearing three-piece suits, please don't.

The others do seem to be hard for this place to hold onto. [Him, well, not so much.] Flash in particular hasn't ever stuck around for long, but you've got to expect that from him.

[Supes laughs at that. Oh, Robin, if you only knew.]

Mine or yours?

[Oh he's just going to go ahead and filter the whole thing now.]

I don't suppose they've left behind any particular clues.

Both. Either. [Say a word involving Wayne Anything and he'll be off to sulk for hours.]

[Yeah that works. He considers shifting it to the League filter, but something tells him there's going to be a few things in this conversation Robin would be happier if Batman didn't know.]

Nothing either me or Bruce could figure out.

Me, I've been doing pretty much the same thing all these years. You though... I don't suppose you've heard or thought of the name "Nightwing" yet, have you?

I'm surprised. Has Batman just not slept at all since he's been trapped here?

"Nightwing"? No, I haven't. [It sounds BAD. ASS. *o*] Is that some supervillain? [Does that mean he'll be visible enough to gather a proper archenemy? ...Probably Terra. She'd probably pick a name like that just to mock him more than she already has.]
