My "Wife" is Here

Aug 14, 2008 13:33

My mother is semi retired and works 2x a week as an ER nurse. The hospital she works at because of it's location, caters to the large Orthodox (Hasidic mainly) Jewish community in the area.

She worked yesterday and around 5PM 2 men came in, they had come straight from the patient's private doctor and he was scheduled to go into surgery later that day/night. As my mother was taking his vital signs, the patient said,"my wife is here." Now in the ER there are only curtain partitions and my mother looked around and spotted a female sitting on the other side of the curtain and thought this is the person the patient was referring to. She then realized that no, that was the someone with the patient next door. My mother then went on to explain the procedure that would be performed on him and once again he said, "my wife is here." My mother glances around again. No wife. So a bit of small talk between the 2 men and my mom as they wait for the doctor and my mom finishes w/e. Once again he goes,"my wife is here." No one else is in the little partitioned space but my mother, the patient and the man standing at the foot of the bed.

My mother leaves and goes about her thing and THEN it hits her. He was referring to the guy at the foot of the bed.

ROFL

She explained to me that it was near the end of the shift and they were Orthodox Jews. O_o  Still just LOL at my mother. "

mom, life, lol
