The days leading up to Trumplethinskin

During the holiday pot luck/Secret Santa lunch at work a white, older, male co worker that I'm friendly with sat next to me and smiled as he told me he could say Merry Christmas now. He goes home to Virginia every weekend and he always seemed like a practical, no nonsense dude that I shoot the shit with every so often. This stunned me a bit. We're in NYC, in the office alone there are a lot of people who celebrate Hanukkah as opposed to Christmas or some amalgamation of both because of blended families and traditions. I've always said Merry Christmas to those I know celebrate it, Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate that and Happy Holidays to those I'm not really sure about.I don't understand why this is such a THING.

My mother and I were discussing the idiocy of repealing Obamacare and the plans to defund Planned Parenthood. She was upset about the Trump voters that thought he didn't MEAN it when he said he would do these things. She was upset because the people who need these things most voted against their best interest and she could not understand whyyyy. She looked at me and said, "I'm done with that part of my life and I feel bad that Angelica and Stacy will have to fight for these things again."

Carrie Fisher is gone. I remember playing Princess Leia back in kindergarten and first grade. I had box forts and elaborate plots. I remember how my Princess Leia doll had practical flats for her rather large feet, that could she could actually stand on if I balanced the doll right, not like the tiny high heels that my barbies had. Carrie Fisher transcended her role as princess and foreshadowed her role as General Organa as she fought for acceptance of mental illness among all the things she accomplished. I feel that her courage in facing life will be an example to follow in the coming years.
