I'm finally back in Blacksburg for a while, I think...I hope. My car is currently here with me, but not without a little story of its own. As I shared earlier, it had a little run in with Lindsey's Tahoe. That's all nice and fixed, and the parts that were repainted look great. Raymond, the awesome guy who fixed it, got a lil carried away when he was painting the doors and went ahead and did the front bumper, too. Score!
When I was getting ready to leave Lindsey's yesterday, I put the passenger side window down to say something to E, was about to drive off when the damn window wouldn't go back up. The motor up and died! This wouldn't have been that big a deal except that it was raining on and off all day. So we call Raymond up and bring the car over to him. The entire door gets dismantled, and he sees that the super twitter (um..I think that's something like what he called it? aka- that little speaker in the door) was kinda just hanging there and that's probably what caused the motor for the window to caput. He unbolts the window from the motor, we raise it manually, and use the almight duck-tape to hold it up until I can get it fixed. Ok, promblem at least temporarily fixed. I stayed the night over there again and left today. Lindsey and her family are so great- they're really laid back and chill and completely made me feel at home. Maybe that has something to do with Lindsey having the 'you want it, get your butt up and get it attitude. :P
And here's the part that makes me believe the car is possessed. I had my window down this evening because it was nice out, and I didn't want the AC on. As I was getting ready to get out of the car, I went to put my window up and by habit pushed both buttons. And by gollywhat do I hear? Yes, the motor has risen from it's immobile grave at the bottom of the door and decided to work. Granted, the window isn't bolted to it anymore, but when it got to the top of the track, it pushed the glass up the rest of the way it had slid down. grrr.... Here's the dilemma- I don't particularly love the duck tape on my window. It's not horrendously obvious, but it certainly doesn't look pretty. I'm wondering if I take the tape off and don't use the window, if it will stay up without being bolted to glass??? I'm also fairly certain I could take apart the door and fix it myself, but seeing as the most extensive part replacement I've done on my car is the air freshener and mats, I'm a lil hesitant to do anything without supervision.
In other news, the move was fairly painless. Sara, Jess and I worked things out. Ironic that it was when we were all moving apart, but perhaps it's for the best. I'm just glad that we're on better terms. Never hesitate to say you're sorry; no good will come of it. Our walk-through was fast and we're not going to be charged for anything. Yay for getting the security deposit back! Natalia and Melody came in town on Sunday, and we got the painting done. I'll be the first to admit that we didn't do a great job painting, though it's not for lack of knowledge. Uncle Greg would probably be apalled if he saw it (he was a professional painter in college) but we simply didn't care enough to put that much time into it, and it still looks damn good. The colors are nice and it really does make it feel more like a home than an apartment. I didn't paint my room for two reasons. 1) all my stuff was already moved in, and 2) I don't want to be responsible for painting when we leave. This was their thing, so they get to undo it when we move out. The furniture looks great with the covers on it, and the pieces Melody brought really bring it together.
Dr. C has been sending the lab group emails about...um...something. I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm going to be so lost when I get back. I thought I was starting to get it when we left, but I'm looking at the latest copy of the manuscript for the rearrangement and my head is swimming. Granted, it's not just the stuff I did, but it's frustrating. I've been working on this for almost a whole semester, shouldn't I have more than a weak grasp on the subject!?! Small bit of coolness- I can find the parts of my original they used. It was reworded some, but it's in there :) I guess I'll just cross that bridge of utter confusion when I get a lil closer.
That's about it for now. There's still a few things to do around the apartment, but that's mostly decorating stuff where I just get to make things look pretty. I can handle that. Megan's coming for a long weekend starting tomorrow. I can't wait to see her!
ps- I'd have to go with a drug store brand comic book
