I'm back in Blacksburg safe and sound, but that doesn't mean that there weren't some rather entertaining events along the way.
It all started out with my cab ride. I ended up taking a cab from Lemoore to Fresno so that no one would have to drive me at 4:30am. Aunt Mel and I were completely cool with this idea, but Uncle Greg needed a little convincing. He didn't want me to get stuck with an immigrant who couldn't speak English (sounds mean, but it's a definate possibility there). When he found out that the guy who owns/operates this cab company is an ex-Navy guy who worked at Lemoore for 9 years, he felt much better. And this guy was nice. Maybe a little too nice. From this hour long drive I know that his mom has Parkinson's and has had a feeding tube for 2 years. He has a hearing deficit in his right ear from working near equipment at his job. He designs and builds cylindrical speakers and subwoofers for his home. His girlfriend has MS, was a former police officer, medically retired and now is a nurse. She has trouble with numbers because of her disease, likes to scratch his back but has short nails so she bought him a back scratcher, and is 'fiesty.' Now I think I was okay until he called her fiesty. It's not the word persay, but the way he said it, with that little laugh that just makes ya go 'ewww.' I really think I would have preferred a Mexican driver. I don't really mind amusing myself for an hour. Silence is golden.
Ironically, the woman I sat next to on my first flight was Puerto Rican and spoke very little English. Not that I mind idle chit-chat (as long as it's not a detail life story). She was, however, wearing far too much of a really strong perfume. People, if you're going to be in an enlongated tin can at several thosand feet, just don't wear scented anything. Put on deodorant, and call it a day.
The rest of the day was uneventful enough. I found a stuffed deer in a gift shop and instantly thought of Lindsey...not a hard connection to make :P I got it for her as a get well present since she just had surgery.
Speaking of Lindsey, she and her mom were detailing my car (completely not my idea, I would never as that of them; it'd just be cruel). Her mom's foot slipped off the break and my car rolled into Lindsey's Tahoe (probably spelled wrong). Needless to say, my car lost and the door got all dented in. Since it is getting fixed, I got to drive said Tahoe back to school for my move. Damn does that thing ride nice. Makes me not think quite so harshly on those gas-guzzling monstrosities. I'm going back to Richmond on Monday to exchange vehicles and get my baby back. I'm determined to keep up on the wonderful job I know they did on it. Hell, they waxed it. My car did not previously know what wax was. So if you see my car starting to look shitty, remind me to treat it better and clean it. I really have no excuse- my new apartment is really close to the car wash.
That's all for now. I need to get ready for bed so that I'm up and moving when the movers get here at 8:30 [if they're on time...please be on time!]
