End of Tomorrow

Sephiroth hadn’t told them.

Cloud would have liked to blame it on that. He would have loved to blame it on Sephiroth. Sephiroth should have known better than to keep a secret like that. He should have known.

Except Jenova was like a drug, and of all of them, Cloud was the only one not suffering from its effects.

Cloud’s fault.

All Cloud’s fault.

The President fell first, stabbed from behind, never seeing his killer. Tseng almost fell, too, only Reno and Rude’s quick actions saving his life. In the middle of the night, caught between wakefulness and nightmares, Jenova roamed free, wild and hungry.

Throughout it all, the wind blew sharp enough and cold enough to shatter several windows.

Cloud hadn’t heard the wind. The alarms hadn’t been turned on yet. His door clicking open woke him, and he curled his lips in a sleepy smile when he saw Sephiroth. His nerves screamed, but it was Sephiroth. He trusted Sephiroth.

And then Sephiroth kissed him with a mouthful of acidic blood.

And then Sephiroth had fucked him, hands holding him down first, then tentacles. All the while, Jenova smiled down at him, gently, tenderly.

Before dawn, the tower burned like Nibelheim burned.

His fault; he hadn’t seen. His fault; he hadn’t seen. His fault --

Vincent saved him, in the end. He whisked him away under the Plate and promised to return when he found Zack.

Under the Plate, then Cloud heard the wind, howling so sharp and cold, and he remembered the sound of grieving Nibel wolves.

Cloud thought it was dawn, but he couldn’t tell through the grey and cold and he had to wait for Vincent, for Zack, who had to be okay, who were okay, and he didn’t even notice the bruises healing on his wrists.

Sephiroth hadn’t told them.

Cloud wanted to blame Sephiroth.

His fault, his fault, his fault, his fault…
