Chapter 1 Chapter 4
That moron. Just how hard is it to pick up and dial a number? Earn glared hard at his smartphone like it was the one that had caused him such offense. His first thought was to chuck it to the nearest wall from being so frustrated after the nth time his calls and texts were ignored. But his mae would definitely bury him alive if he destroyed the phone and it would be the last present he would ever receive in this life time if his mae decided to spare his life. After all, it was the most expensive gift she had ever gotten him. She had called it a reward for actually graduating High School.
Pft. Like he was such a bad kid. He swore that he was going to demand a car when he graduated College.
Right. Got off a little tangent there. The reason for his frustration, could be no other than his best friend Pete. Or the lack of Pete if they were to get technical. He hadn't seen nor heard anything from the boy! Anytime he calls, the operator would direct him to voicemail. Calling the Vachirat house was also useless since they don't own a house phone. Pete had told him once that his parents thought having a house phone was an unnecessary expense. Whatever that means. Earn also wondered if the lot of them took off on vacation. The Vachirat house was certainly too quiet.
In short, Earn hadn't seen this particular friend of his for more than a week now and for once, he wished that Pete was more of a social person who checks his bloody FB!
The phone that was still clutched in his hand loudly emitted the current melody of his ringtone. It surprised him into dropping it and he cringed, watching it bounced off his bed and fell to the floor with a loud clatter. His mae, who he was pretty sure was born with super-hearing shouted from the kitchen. “That better not be your new phone Earn!”
He didn't bother answering her as he quickly retrieve it and answered the unknown number. “Hello?”
“Good morning Earn.”
There was a second of silence and two heartbeats later, Earn yelled into the phone. “Where the hell have you been?!”
“Hello Pete, how are you? I'm fine. Thank you for not asking you manner-less bastard,” Pete replied instead. Earn frowned at how exhausted his friend sounded.
“You okay?” He asked, concern coloring his voice as he ignored Pete's jibes. Earn planted his behind onto the edge of his bed and crossed his legs. The frown on his face deepen. It shouldn't take this long to answer a simple question but Pete was already laughing softly from his end before he could say anything. The laughter though... Earn wasn't sure how to describe it but it sure wasn't a happy sound.
“Don't be such a mother. I already said that I'm fine.”
“Liar. You wouldn't have sounded this lifeless if you're fine,” Earn persisted. “And you haven't answered my question. Where have you been?”
“I'm really okay Earn. I'm just tired from moving house,” Pete said and as though to emphasize the point, Earn heard a muffled yawn and he couldn't help rolling his eyes even if there was a grin climbing his lips. The idiot could have called him later after he'd gotten enough rest. Then quite suddenly, Pete's words, finally registered in his brains. “What? You're moving? Since when? I swing by your house everyday and I didn't see any moving trucks!”
“Aww... That is so sweet. Did you miss me so much?” Pete teased, his voice lilting childishly.
“Don't be such a prick and tell me! Do you know how worried I was? Your whole family just disappeared after that time you were nearly kidnapped!” Earn stopped short from his venting suddenly feeling like he had been hit by a truck and went right back on track like a speeding freight train. “Oh my God! Did you moving have anything to do with those scary as fuck goons? Who are they? What do they want from you? Did they hurt you? Are you okay? You sh -,”
“Ai Earn!”
“What?!” He yelled into the phone and realized a second after that he was on his feet and his voice had slowly gotten louder.
“Calm the fuck down dude. It's nothing like that,” Pete stated calmly. Earn dropped back onto his bed, his legs feeling wobbly and his heart thudding hard.
“Don't scare me like that Pete,” Earn huffed rubbing his chest. It was hurting he realized. The thought of something bad happening to his friend frightened him.
“You were the one scaring yourself Ai stupid.” The bastard chuckled softly like it was something hilarious.
“Shut up!” Earn scowled annoyed at being laughed at and relieved at the same time. “So why did you guys move?”
A tired sigh punctuated the short silence before he was answered. “Trouble with my dad's business. So we're downgrading. The house was sold with the furnishes included. We're currently residing at my aunt's place.”
“The one with the annoying snobbish son?” God, how he hated that guy! He remembered that one time when that family came visiting while he was over at Pete's. The way they turned up their noses at everything still rankles him to this day.
“The one an only. My mom's sister is the only one rich enough to take us in and my dad's family are too far and scattered. Thank God I only have to endure them during dinner,” Pete said almost fervently.
“Don't worry Ai Pete, you won't have to see them often once we start college and you can still see your parents daily if you want to since they live near enough,” Earn consoled and grinned with excitement. “Speaking of which. We're gathering at Ai Phun's house tomorrow evening for the results and you're coming.”
“Ughh... I rather not thank you. Too lazy to make the trip,” Pete replied blandly and a light splash could be heard from his end. A happy sigh greeted his ear. “I'm enjoying this luxury while I'm still here before subjecting myself to being a poor college student.”
“Shiya Ai Pete! Are you lounging in a pool right now?” Earn barked almost green with envy. Bloody bastard and here he was enduring Bangkok's heat since his AC broke. He could almost see the bastard grinning into his phone with nothing but his swimming shorts, half his body submerge in the blue water of the pool. Earn coughed, his throat suddenly drying. “Not the point. I don't care. I'm gonna pick you up tomorrow. So you better be ready.”
“Krap Khun Earn. I'll see you tomorrow,” Pete said and hung up before Earn could issue more threats.

Earn whistled impressed at the sight which greeted him. Intimidating huge gold embossed iron gate stood before him. He could see nicely kept green lawns on either side of the gravelled driveway winding and disappearing from sight. Shiya. Just how huge is it? Earn called Pete's new number and waited, trying to get his eyes to shrink back to their normal size as he kept staring at the gate.
“Come out. I'm already here,” Earn said as soon as the call was answered. Pete didn't say anything but he could hear his friend moving by the way he breathed. Not a minute after, the gates before him slid open with a quiet hiss.
“You come in, I'm waiting outside the house,” Pete finally replied. Earn hung up, sliding his phone into the breast pocket of his gray outer shirt and nervously rode in following the long winding path. His eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. He caught sight of his friend sitting on the steps that was gleaming from the sun and sped up.
“You call this a house?” Earn almost let out an unbecoming screech as soon as he slowed to a stop, trying to take everything in at once. It was a freaking mansion and he finally understood his friend's refusal. He wouldn't even bother getting out of the mansion without any form of transportation.
Pete shrugged nonchalantly from the marble steps he was sitting on and got up silently demanding a helmet which he didn't have. Earn rolled his eyes and took off the one he's wearing. “At least act a little more excited to see me. Say something boy.”
“I don't wanna wear that. You're sweating and I just washed my hair,” Pete replied grumpily backing away. This little bastard. He was so teasing him. He quickly grabbed Pete's wrist and tugged him down the steps before he could go further up. He shoved the helmet onto the other's head, chuckling at the indignant squawk as he fastened the buckle under his chin.
“Good, you'll end up smelling like me,” he grinned. It's amusing him to see the blush spreading across the other's cheeks and decided to take the teasing further by snaking his arms around the other's waist. He jerked him closer till they were chest to chest. “Then everyone will know you're mine.”
A moment of silence passed between them. Pete's eyes had gone a little wider from the tease and Earn's grin was slowly sliding off his face. Because from this angle, with the sun coming from his back and more of the rays shining on Pete, he realized that the boy's eyes were a little golden. He looked a little closer, his head moving unconsciously forward. His own obsidian globes roamed about the face as though he was seeing his friend for the first time.
His dark brown hair peeking from the helmet has hues of it. The other boy's skin was lighter than his. But he wasn't milky white like Noh. If he had to describe it, Pete was more of a light honey. A very light golden honey. Everything about Pete was touched with gold.
“You're kinda pretty,” Earn blurted. What the fuck was wrong with him? And in the midst of his very short musing, a sharp pain bloomed on his feet making him release the other boy and hop around. “Shiya Pete!”
“Serves you right,” he scoffed with a satisfied smirk. “I'm not pretty and we're not werewolves. You can't make me yours even if I do end up smelling like you. Now get on that cheap motorbike and get me some early dinner.”
Earn scowled making absolutely sure his feet won't fall apart before getting on the vehicle. He started the engine and felt the bike dipping from the weight of Pete getting on. His grin began hiking up his cheeks again as he watched Pete from the mirror.
“Hold on tight princess!” He yelled and gunned down the driveway happily chortling about the one last dig he managed to slip in. He'll just have to ask Pete to rub in some ointment on his back when the bruises appear.
