LIMBS

Sara felt her limbs working all the time. She would whisper hello to them all of the time and thank you and good job.  Sara’s limbs appreciated the encouragement.  She used to cry at nights.  Planet-sized sobs that would turn her back and legs in ways that backs and legs shouldn’t turn.

Hello thank you good job.

AUNT

Sara's parents passed when she was young. She was sent to live with her aunt, who was a bear sound effect that emitted from tinny toy speakers. Sara did nearly what she wanted but never shook quite her aunt always in her. A bit-crushed growl soundtracked each slept-in morning. Aunt bear aunt bear back again here with Sara.

FISH

Christopher liked the way fish felt in his hands. Slimy and then the occasional catch of a scale here and there.  Catfish were his favorite, though.  Sometimes he looked on job websites for work in fish hatcheries.  His ideal job, he thought, would be getting paid to touch catfish and smoke cigarettes all day long.

SNOW

Sara loves touching the snow.  She likes walking in it, likes how it emphasizes the size and distance of the air, the space around her.  Her dog leaves tracks like pairs of semi-colons that scrawl a line across her back yard.

NO DEER

I was trying to keep the deer out of my horse garden. They kept getting in and eating the horses. The horses wouldn't even get that big just foals before deer would come in and nibble their manes.
