An informational interview is when you get to pick where you want to work! Just pinpoint your ideal librarical situation, call them up, and say, "Hi, I just graduated from library school and am interested in learning more about what it's like to work there. I'm really interested in [insert something about them and what they do, why they're unique] and would love a chance to talk with you about your experiences working in the field. I'm undecided about [something, which path within library science to pursue, maybe?] and would really appreciate your insights." It's a great way to just get advice about your possible career trajectories and meet new people in the field. I don't think it's ever a waste! I did one with a nice girl who worked in a crazy office and I was like, "whoa, now I know I wouldn't wanna work here!!" It's great.
If you're interested though, there are informational interview questions online, and I have something from UVA's career center too that I could send you.
