Hello, hello!
So, I've been doing a whole lot of nothing lately, and so I'm not sure what I'll entertain you with now. I am currently working two days a week at the church, so for the other days... well, I just feel very unproductive. I have been trying to increase my healthy eating habits, but ice cream tempts me far too often, and I give in. I think, though, that as long as the rest of the food I eat is healthy, I can allow myself to indulge. And I will. :)
I am considering taking a two-week hiatus from the interwebz and the televisionz. While it's very easy for me to spend hours reading MLIA or watching NCIS, Buffy, or House, I just feel that it is in my best interest to not do that.
I feel as if I have been in a rut, spiritually. I'd like to rectify that fact. So, I think that I will cut out the things that take up so much of my (wasted) time, as mentioned above, and commit those soon-to-be free areas to reading the Bible and other helpful books. I've recently begun to read Forgotten God, by Francis Chan, which focusses on the Holy Spirit, and how modern-day Christians have basically neglected Him. Here is the "summary" on the back of the book:
Powerful. When is the last time someone used that word to describe you?
It doesn't make sense that Almighty God would have children characterized by fear and insecurity. He put His Spirit in us so we could be known for our power (Acts 1:8; 2 Tim. 1:7). Sadly, most believers and churches are known for talent or intellect rather than supernatural power. What's worse is that we're okay with it.
Could it be that we've forgotten the One who distinguishes us from every religion and cult in the world?
Through solid scriptural support and compelling narrative, breakthrough author Francis Chan returns us to the Holy Spirit as the Bible describes Him. He reminds us that we were not created and saved merely to survive our time on earth. Chan contends that we've ignored the Spirit and are reaping the disastrous results.
It's time for the beloved church of Jesus Christ to reverse the rend of neglect. Let's pursue the Spirit-filled life of effectiveness God desires and we desire.
Pretty cool, huh? Definitely worth a read. I've only just started the 2nd chapter, and already I'm feeling convicted with the need to set myself right with the Spirit.
So that's what I'm up to.
On another note, Chicago is treating me well. I'm enjoying the cooler weather, but I can still go outside without a jacket, so I'm eager for it to get COLD. It will be great. Plus, that means it's getting closer to Christmas, which means it's getting closer to the time when I can see my family again. :)
