bestof_icons challenged everyone to remake some icons again, and this time I actually managed to finish the remakes in a timely fashion. *G*
tturners picked:
The Cassandra icon hadn't been that old at the time, but she deftly picked one that really didn't work as it was. I hadn't noticed how full and loud the icon was, and the skin color looks weird against the background. I think the second attempt looks much cleaner and fits the dreaming aspect a lot better than the first one. Thank you!
The Lucifer icon had been part of a color challenge, and I think I made all five icons for that challenge within one hour. It shows, they're rushed and just imperfect (applepips picked one of them, too). I tried for a more complex composition in the remake, because after 2x06, it just didn't feel right to call Linda the "only sane person" anymore, so I decided to show that instead.
applepips16 picked:
Again with the sloppy Lucifer icon. In the remake, I tried to make a composition that accentuates the angles already going on in his posture and look. I didn't really know what to make of it thematically, otherwise, but it was a lot of work and I like the result.
The second one was one I liked, but it didn't stand out in the set it belongs to, just a quick and boring filler icon. I cast around for an actual Moriarty quote for the remake, and went for my favorite style: grunge paint background + colored clothes. I think it doesn't look so bad now.
The last one was also one I really liked, except that it was a bit too light. I kept the complete composition from the original for my remake, just changed the adjustment layers to get a flatter look. Then it reminded me of an album cover, and tadaa. :) It still makes me smile.
adriftingsea picked:
I had a really hard time with the Elementary one, but adriftingsea gave me great advice on what to try, and I think that turned out really well in the end. I made several alts there (see below).
The Sleepy Hollow one looked okay to me, but the composition is pretty pointless. I thought putting the horseman into better focus would help it, and adding some text also did. I'm still not sure which alt - the one with or without Abbie and Ichabod - looks better. I think the original one had better depth, but I sacrificed that for a better look at the horseman and tighter composition.
I quite liked the original Stiles, too, but mostly for the color. :) The texture position and his weird-looking hand could definitely use some improvement. It was literally in the first batch of icons I made in 2016, so I knew I could do better than that.
And I picked these three:
My specific goal with those was to remake them all with a painted look. I think I managed that, I'm quite happy with the results.
