I don't tithe at all. As a matter of fact, I don't even pledge. Now, that doesn't mean that I don't give to the church. The money I give, I specifically earmark for the Outreach Commission, because I believe that that is the true mission of the Church. In our church, if you don't earmark the money it goes into the general fund which then goes to luncheons for the people who volunteer to answer phones one day a week at the church, or things like catered luncheons to promote more pledging (which I think is ridiculous)... they spend more than the amount I would have pledged on the freaking catered lunch!!

So, I write my checks to the various Outreach projects or turn in my receipts for credit (not reimbursement) for things I've bought for the Holiday Project and leave it at that.

We give anywhere from $25-$50 when we go to church. We gave $100 when the twins got baptised. Our church is Methodist in a small farm town. They don't say you HAVE to give THIS amount. The money goes towards lights, heat, pastors salary. NOT for lunches or stuff like that.
