What are your thoughts on tithing? Do you do it? If so, off net or gross? If not, why? Do you feel guilty?
You're probably wondering where this came from. So here's dealio. As you know, I'm applying Dave Ramsey's teachings and philosophies to my finances to get out of debt and move on with saving for our future. He is a devout Christian and strongly encourages all Christians to tithe.
I was raised in a family that did not tithe, or if my parents and grandparents did, I am not aware of it (I may have to ask Mom & Daddy about it). In fact, I had never heard of the tithe unil this summer when I started listening to Dave. The God-fearing part of me feels like it's the right thing to do, but my "security gland" is going all sorts of crazy at the thought. 10% is a lot of money every month that could be going toward my debt. I worry about not having enough to pay for everything (even though my budget says I will have). And then I read posts like
this and
this and think that God really will provide if I submit.
