Title: Pretend This Is Fiction
Author: tinkertoo aka Cassie
Rating: PG in this chapter, much higher in others
Fandom: American Idol Season 7 (Alternate Universe)
Overall Pairings: David Cook/David Archuleta, David Archuleta/Danny Noriega, David Cook/Michael Johns, one-sided Jason Castro/Danny Noriega (cause I can xD), Ramiele/???
Chapter Pairings: Cookie/Archie (sort of)
Summary: David Archuleta has always been the shy, quiet, and closeted gay kid. But when he moves to a new school, everything changes. He develops not one, but two new relationships, one with a new friend and one with his principal, who happens to already be in a relationship. When he falls for both of them, he'll have to decide which one truly is his 'one true love'.
Warnings: (not all in this chapter) Cheating, statutory rape (David A's a minor, David C definitely isn't), principal/student relationship, swearing, lots of slash aka gay sex, creepy-stalker Jason, and maybe more
Disclaimer: Pretty sure these people are actually past/current Idol contestants and not teachers/principals/students of a high school (well except David A), so this is 100% fiction. Also, title belongs to The Pink Spiders.
A/N: Kinda short, but I wanted to post another chapter before the finale and we're getting ready to leave so I didn't know if I'd have time once we got back.
A/N 2: I'm now linking this back to my journal, and will all future chapters too, so I can keep all the comments in one place. Don't worry, none of my writing is friend's locked so everyone can view it.

David hated it when his mom worked early shifts; it always meant he had to leave with her and end up getting to school at least an hour before school started. It'd happened at his old school too, but at least then there were a few like him, and he had people to be around. But here, he only knew Ramiele and Danny so far, and he was pretty sure they were more of the 'show up 5 minutes before class starts' kind of people. So that left David stuck at his new school with no one else there but teachers it seemed. Maybe he could find a big comfy chair in the library and relax until more students arrived? Except he didn't know where the library was, or if they even had big comfy chairs to rest in. He kind of doubted they did, but what could it hurt, right?

Well, David should probably pay a little more attention to where he was walking, because about five minutes after starting his search, which had quickly turned into just randomly walking around the school, he felt himself crash into another body and fall to the ground.

He pushed himself up quickly, reaching to pick up his dropped books. "Oh my gosh I'm so sorry, I didn't mean t-" The sentence broke off when he looked up and saw his principal standing in front of him. And looking even more gorgeous than the day before. 'No David, you can't think like that!' His cheeks turned a deep shade of crimson and his eyes fell back to the floor.

"Are you okay David?" He felt his throat tighten even more as the older man said his name, and he wasn't sure why.

"Ye-yeah.." he managed, "I'm fine."

"Are you sure? You're acting kind of... I don't know, weird?" Cook knew exactly how he was acting, it was nervous, the same way he was feeling. But he just choked it up to David being scared he'd be in trouble or something for crashing into him, no way he was nervous for the same reason.

'It's that obvious?' David swallowed down the lump he felt forming in his throat before nodding, unable to make eye contact with Mr. Cook. "Yeah I'm sure. I should just, uhm, be more careful next time, I guess. I'm sorry again, you probably have more important things to do than deal with a clumsy student."

"No, not really." He wouldn't admit it to David, or anyone else for that matter, but there was nothing more he wanted to do right now than, as David had put it, 'deal' with him. "Anything I can help you with while I'm here?"

"No. I mean I was just looking for a place to rest, until more people get here. I think so far it's me and you and a bunch of teachers."

Cook smiled, this kid really was too cute. He shouldn't be offering this, really he should just point him to the library or something, but... "You can rest in my office if you want. Might be a while until more students actually show up." He could feel just the tiniest bit of heat going to his cheeks at the thought of being alone in his office with David. Okay, maybe that wasn't such a good idea.

David turned an even darker shade of red at the offer. "Really? I'd like that but... are you sure you'd want me hanging around in your office all morning? Don't you have work to do?"

Cook shook his head. "It's fine with me, if it wasn't I wouldn't have offered. Besides, I don't have any work until later and I'd like the company." David blushed even more, if that was even possible, but agreed.
~~~~~
They didn't really talk much on the walk back to his office. Cook had asked why David was there so early, he's given the simple answer that his mom had to work early. Which really didn't help Cook's developing feelings, he had to keep in mind that David was still a kid. He still relied on his parents to drive him to school and he still had to actually go to school.
David didn't mind the silence at first; it was sort of comforting, knowing he wasn't making an idiot out of himself by talking too much. But still, silence can get old after a while, and by the time he was settled in the chair in front of Mr. Cook's desk, the silence really was getting to him. Apparently it was getting to the older man too, because he finally started a conversation about music. Surprisingly, they had a lot of the same tastes. And a lot of likes that were way out there that the other hadn't even heard of, but both expected that. Somehow the conversation veered from that onto movies, and just escalated from there. Before either of them knew it, the hour had passed and David had better be running if he wanted to make it to English on time. On his way to class, it did occur to him that this made two days in a row that he was almost late for class because he'd been too caught up in talking to Mr. Cook, but he let the thought slide from his mind. He had more important things to worry about right now, like making sure he wasn't late two days in a row.
He ended up making it to class at exactly 8:29, and the second he was in his seat the bell rang. Ms. White shot him a look for the near lateness, but said nothing, and he was just thankful he'd made it on time.
"Are you gonna be late everyday?" Danny asked as he sat down, obviously trying not to snicker.
"No." David replied simply, blush creeping up his cheeks again. "I was just... preoccupied, I guess. Lost track of time."
"Well don't let it happen again!" Danny attempt at a serious voice was almost convincing, except for that fact that he was laughing the entire time. David gave a nervous laugh with him, but said nothing.
"So seriously David, where were you?" Ramiele this time, shooting a glare at Danny again.
"Just... nowhere." For some reason, it seemed weird to say he was just hanging out in the principal's office, that definitely would sound suspicious or something, so it was best if he kept quiet. "I was just working.. on... some things." Yeah, real convincing. Ramiele could probably see through the excuse, but if she did she wasn't saying anything, though she was eyeing him kind of strangely. He turned away from her gaze and the class continued, David still thinking about that morning, and wondering (more like hoping) that he'd have more mornings like that, with Cookie.
~~~~~~

Oh my god, finale in 3 hours and 10 minutes! (-insert major fangirling here-) I can't wait, but I also am sad, I don't want it to be over already.

and on another note, I'm also majorly fangirling over finding music by David Cook's ex-band, Axium, including them covering Radiohead's Creep. Yay!!! (okay and I am in love with the song anyways, David singing it just makes it 5000 times better)
