Man, am I bushwacked.
Martha and I just hosted a few people (including the inestimable
listersgirl) over for games-night-slash-Christmas-dinner-dry-run. All-told, things went well. Most of the food was colder than we would have liked, but that was due to one unexpected bottleneck. I have a newfound sense of deep respect for my mother who, as I was growing up, prepared most dinners in such a way that the food was hot when we ate it.
Many games were played, including Settlers of Catan, Munchkin, Mario Party 8, ... well, I guess those three games were played. But we had much fun.
The greatest lesson that we take from this is that it's a good thing we did a dry run. If we're lucky, we'll have time to tweak one or two of the dishes (and maybe even make the ones we intend to make) before Christmas itself.
Now I'm tired and in great need of sleep. Happy December, everybody! I hope that everyone in Toronto is enjoying the wonderful snow!
