Leg update

Nothing much today, except for...

I went to the hospital for x-rays and an assessment of the pins in my leg and whether I could have them removed.

And I'm having surgery on May 28th!!

I am so very happy, I even profusely thanked the nurse whose only job was to provide me with the date.

The doctor was a really pleasant guy, and he'll be doing the surgery himself, which is reassuring. I'm having an arthroscopy, because he figured there was probably a bit of debris and mess in my ankle joint from the break, and figured while he was in there, he might as well remove all the hardware. And let me tell you, there's a lot. I've seen my x-rays before, and I still went "whoa" when I walked into the room. It's a veritable junk yard down there. A new thing I noticed this time is that not only is there a splint along the bone, but they've also secured it with metal wires around the bone and *then* drilled in the pins to hold it all in place. Dude. It looks ferocious. Apparently, I have an infected tendon running along the inside of my foot and up my leg and that's causing some of my discomfort. Well, duh. It's just funny to me that doctors don't think there's a connection between "alien object" and "subsequent irritation." They just keep telling me I'm suffering the prolonged effects of the break. Yeah, OR there's a bunch of metal in my leg slowing down the healing process... But those things are not connected in Western medicine. And well, in this case I hope I'm right and they're wrong because I'm kind of over having this much trouble with a leg that broke 2½ years ago.

So yay! I'll be back in crutches for a little while, but it'll be totally worth it. Hopefully. :)
