Well it's been a while since I posted, thought it was about time. Classes are going well, geology has pretty much taken over my life, but that's normal. I'm just starting my senior research project (that I will be working on all year). It's on oysters and other inverts in the Chesapeake Bay and how they were afftected by the arrival of the settlers ~300 years ago. Sounds fun, huh? And my structural geo class is going to be lots of fun, too. We're just getting started on a semester long project- mapping an imaginary region called "pandora." I'm also taking some other non-Geo classes, but they're not that important.
Jesus got his deployment orders last week. He'll be leaving October 5th for Balad, Iraq, probably for about a year. I'm dealing ok with it, I'm not sure that it has really sunk in yet. He's trying to get leave to come visit me the last week in September, but if that doesn't work out I'll prbably take a day off of school and go out to see him.
Oh, and I think my parasite is back. Ugh. Today I felt like there was actually a small animal living inside my stomach. I'm sure you all wanted to know that.
Anyway, in spite of everything, I'm glad to be back. My tiny room is feeling pretty homey and I've been doing a lot of cooking, trying out new recipes (since the kitchen is usually deserted). So that's been fun. Apparently I am 75 years old and can't stay out past 11 or so on weekends, but I'm working on that, I promise! It's hard to try and act like a "normal" college student since I've been hanging out with my family all summer and going to bed at 10.
I'm trying to find a job this semester since I have a pretty light schedule, not much luck so far though. The library didn't want me, and I'm waiting to hear back from the bookstore. I'm going to volunteer at Mathew Whaley also, hopefully in a special ed class, and maybe at a center that does early intervention for infants and toddlers. I also joined Amnesty International, and I might help out with a project that's trying to raise money to build a well in Malawi or somewhere. Oh, and the Fair Trade club. I think that in my efforts to get involved in more activities, I might be overdoing it a little. We'll see.
