Summary: When Changmin's girlfriend gets attached to a book she just finished, it affects everything...
It was a Saturday evening, right after a nice, home-made dinner created by you when you left Changmin in the kitchen to clean up. The clever girl you are, kissed him, arms wrapped around his neck and slender fingers ran through his hair. As if by magic, you got him to do the dishes. "You're so sweet and loving, Changmin-aaaah~" you smiled cutely, leaning against the counter, watching Changmin wash dishes in your pink apron. It was an adorable sight. He sneered, looking back at you mockingly, "Yeah yeah"
You walked to the fridge and grabbed yourself a bottle of chocolate milk before turning around to tease your lover again. You laugh, "I love you!" and blow him a kiss before turning around toward the living room, smiling. "Now, if you'll excuse me I will be finishing off my book~"
Changmin looked up, "Ah-- yah! No! You can't! I forbid you, woman!"
You roll your eyes as you grab the book he just bought you from the coffee table and retrieved to your favorite spot.
You are sat on the floor, back against the window panel.
While, Changmin, the dish-washer was sighing to himself. "Damn that stupid book" he cursed under his breath, putting a little more pressure onto washing, almost costing a new plate. You would scold him for being careless and rough on the plates, again. You value your things, they're gifts from friends and family. They're special. Especially the China plates, Jaejoong, one of your lover's closest friends given you. Knowing that you were, as well, a home-taught chef like himself.
"I shouldn't have bought her that stupid book if I had knew..." Changmin huffed as he continued washing, the soap bubbles getting on his nerves.
"I hope you get a cup of coffee spilled all over your spine-- or even better, someone accidentally drops you onto the shredder" Changmin smirked as he planned a way to get his girlfriend away from that addicting book.
It took him almost an hour, circling around the mall to find you sitting in the back of the bookstore. Changmin blinked, staring at you with crossed arms. You could feel his stare but chose to ignore it, after two years of evil and cuteness (underneath all that snark and evil, there is cute. You knew this from the start and you adored him even more.)
"Yah" he poked your side with his shoe, calling your name in a whisper, no, a hiss. Because he was tired, heaving, and hungry. Very hungry.
You were getting to the good part in the book when he poked you again, repetitively this time and he knew that it ticked you off.
"What!" you shot up with a steamy glare. You meet his face, expression serious and still. He was mad. You blinked a few times, "What is it?" you repeat, so maybe you weren't being so nice. You're the one who called and changed the meeting place after all. But he should know! That you love books and as much as you love him too, books-- from the beginning of time-- or your life time, they've always had a special place right in the middle of your heart. Now he and your favorite books are sharing that spot. But you'll never let him know. It'll bother his ego. And you knew better.
"What?" he repeated, "How about a, Oh, hey baby. You found me after running around the crowded mall. I'm so sorry that I had to change our meeting place, are you hungry?-- or-- or a simple greeting would've worked too" You could see his jaw clenched tightly.
You frowned slightly, pouting before hanging your head in guilt. "I'm....sorry" you whispered.
"What?" Changmin replied, rather...quickly, "Couldn't here you."
You huffed, looking up at him with crossed arms and a full pout. "I'm sorry! Ok? That I suddenly switched our meeting place, for--for making you look for me! And for ignoring you!-- Happy?" You raised your voice. Enough to make a few turn heads your guys' way. Making you purse your lips in slight embarrassment.
"You look so ugly when you pout" Changmin stuck his tongue out at you before smiling softly, "Apology accepted" he replied. "Now, lets go" he sighed, looking around. "I'm starved"
You get up, "I have to buy this first."
"Huh?"
You shoved the book in front of his face, "I. Have. To. Buy. This. Fiiiirst"
"Whaaat" he replied, taking the book from your hand and examined it, flipping it around to read the back. After reading the summary, he cocked an eyebrow. "Trans-gender, huh?" he glanced at you. "Are you dropping hints?"
"What?" You blinked, looking up at him, confused for a moment then when it came to your head that he was teasing you, you didn't hesitate to smack his arm. "Shut up. I'm not! You should be lucky you're with me" you cross you arms across your chest with your chin high.
"Why are you interested in this kind of book?" he questioned, glancing at you before untangling your arms and held your hand, then pulled you. When he began walking, while still looking at the book, you knew he was in a generous mood. And if you give a legit answer, its for sure.
"Its a change from the romance novels I read, vampires, werewolves, and immortals are getting boring" You frown. "Besides, I think, after reading this it will open my eyes and see from a different perspective" you smiled with a nod. That was pretty good response. You feel confident. Changmin nodded as you and him step on the escalator. "Alright" he replied, "Maybe I'll read it too" he added, holding the book to his side and gave you a smile.
"Its nice so far" You nodded, leaning your head against his arm and let out a yawn.
"Tired?" he asked.
"A little bit" you smile up at him, "I'm sure you're tired and hungry times two" you chuckled. Your boyfriend works at the library, part-time. You guys are college students of course. It might not seem like it, but its a very stressful job. You were shocked about it when you heard his first day. That's why librarians were so quiet.
"Nah" Changmin shrugged, acting all manly as always.
"Did you have to carry encyclopedias today?"
He pursed his lips, "Hmm...a few" and nodded gently. "Ms. Lee's losing her mind-- she couldn't remember where to put them. I had to re-do the ordering more than four times" he shook his head. "Unbelievable"
"Oh, give her a break. She's sixty-five years old, still working full-time Changmin-ah" you frown slightly.
"Yeah but still-- you know, I make her job easier so-- who's around to make my job easier?"
"Me~" you answer, brightly smiling, earning a laugh from yours truly.
You reach the ground floor and walk to the resisters.
"Really now?" he raised an eyebrow and you nodded, "Mhm~ If it weren't for me, you'd be a tall, grouchy boy without a girlfriend" you grinned cheekily. Changmin snorted and poked your head, "Right. Without me, you'd be a fat bookworm" he retorted.
"Without me you'd be starved to death"
"I can always just barge into Jaejoong's apartment"
"Yeah?"
"Of course, that's what cousins are for" he shrugged simply.
"Pft. Yeah right-- just admit it, before you embarrass yourself. Without me you'd be nothing. Lonely, dull, and food-less" you nodded sadly, complete with a frown. "Ah, and you'd be a fashion terrorist too-- I mean, seriously. Aren't I an essential element in your life?" you might've said that a little arrogantly. He was slowly rubbing off of you and you didn't even notice.
Changmin blinked, turning to you as it looked like he was formulating a pretty good come back in his mind. "Without me," he paused, smirking a tiny suggestive smirk, "you wouldn't have anyone to tame" his arm snuck up around you. Suddenly, he pulled you close and kissed the top of your head, "And I happen to know for a fact that you like it like that" he whispered in your ear.
"Shut up" You turned away from him, breathing deeply and calmed your pink face down. He chuckled, squeezing your waist. "I won. Again" And you replied, elbowing him in the stomach.
You bit your lower lip, eyes staring intensely at the page of the book you were on. The climax was happening before your eyes and you want to skip lines but you don't want to spoil anything-- making you read even faster! You gasp, "Oh my god!" you can't help but burst. What a twist!
"What! What!" Changmin replied, in the middle of rinsing the dishes. "Stop, drop, and roll!" he added with a chuckle. You wrinkle your nose, looking up and make a face toward your annoying boyfriend before going back to your book. "Go back to washing dishes, boy" you replied in a monotone, digging your nose back into your book with a soft hum. Changmin made a sour face, imitating you with a whiny voice.
Half an hour passed and you moved to the couch, Changmin was long finished with the dishes and is now sitting beside you channel surfing. After reading this one, short sentence that hit you straight into the heart a stinging sensation began in your nostrils, followed by your eyes tearing up. You pouted, blinked at the page and let out a shaky sigh, "Aww" you sniffed as tears began dropping from your eyes. Since you were almost finished, you decided to finish the book once and for all-- what you didn't know is that the rest of the words would have such an impact to you.
Changmin's arms were crossed, eyebrows scrunched as he couldn't find anything interesting. From the corner of his eyes he sensed something was off. He blinked and slowly turned his view toward you, blinking again he squinted his eyes at you. "...Are you...--" he blinked again, rising an eyebrow, "--crying?"
"What!" You shot up at him with a frown, face wet with your tears. "It's a touchy book okay!?" you sniffed, raising a hand to wipe your cheek.
Your boyfriend replied with an amused chuckle, it was rare to see you cry and yet, there you were, crying over a book. "Did the main character die or something?" he leaned forward to take a peak at the words that made you shed tears. "No!" you replied, calming yourself down and placed the book on your lap, "She's...finally free" your pout just deepened as you recalled the earlier events in the book and it just made you cry even more. Before you knew it, you were sobbing and Changmin was very confused.
"A-are you okay?"
You sniffed, nodding softly, "Y-yeah" you gulped, "It's just...she--she went through so much," you sobbed once more, closing your eyes as your palms covered your face. "She deserves happiness!" your last words were muffled by your hands.
Changmin sighed and couldn't help but feel bad too, even though he had no idea what was going on he wrapped an arm around you and pulled you closer. "There, there," he rubbed your upper arm, resting his chin over your shoulder and pecked your jaw line. "It's just a book" he reminded you, "Don't waste so much energy on that, the book's been published. You can't call the author and demand a different ending."
"Idiot" your murmured, adjusting yourself against him, "The ending was perfect" you replied with a stuffy nose, face pressed against his warm chest. "Eh?" Changmin blinked, looking down at you, "Then why are you crying?"
"Happy tears" you replied simply, nodding slightly, "It's just...the words, oh" you sighed, biting your bottom lip as you remembered them. "Amazing" you added breathlessly.
He smiled, rubbing your back in small circles, "Ahh" he nodded, "Like me?" he chuckled, trying to lift up your mood.
"Aiiish" You reply, nuzzling against him.
Changmin smiled softly, pressing a kiss on top of your head, "It's just a book, really. I'd rather see you cry joyous tears when I ask you to marry me or something" he nodded. "Eh?" you blinked and looked up at him. He chuckled, wiping your cheeks dry, "So don't cry anymore, alright?" he smiled softly before pressing a kiss to your lips.
"Mm" you replied softly, kissing him back before giving him another warm hug. Sniffing once more, you lean against him comfortably, "I really liked it though." You nodded, glancing at the book that was now on the floor. It probably dropped when he pulled you toward him.
"Nope" Changmin replied, "Not gonna read it" he sighed with a reply, his eyes turning back to the TV screen. "But it's really good!" You nodded, looking at him, "Read it-- and we'll have a nice conversation about the plot and the characters."
He scoffed in reply, "Nope, I'm not going to read another book of yours-- I've had enough with dreamy boys. If I'm gonna let you choose a book, it's gotta have at least some naughty scenes or something--" he smirked, "Now that, we can discuss, even experiment if you wanted to" he snickered.
You smacked his arm, "Pervert."
"Then I guess that makes you Mrs. Pervert" Changmin grinned in response.
"Aiiiish" You rolled your eyes with a sigh, "One of these days...." biting your lower lip, you didn't really have anything in mind to say. But he turned to you, smiling and kissed you again. "I got it, I got it. I'll ask you soon, don't worry about it."
