March Madness.

Which, unlike the sole topic of conversation here in Indiana for lo these last two weeks, has nothing whatsoever to do with basketball.

Anyway, welcome to the chaos that is my life. The PODS are being dropped off on Friday, the movers come on Saturday, so I've got this week to pack and generally disassemble my Lafayette life so that I can hit the road by Sunday morning (BTW, razzle, expect an email about that soon... any chance I can crash at your pad in Bloomington on my way home? I'll even offer my mad painting skills in return! And Ty, if I could sofa surf at your crib on Monday night, you'd really be helping a sista' out!).

I bought some on-sale plastic bins at KMart for my books (since they'll be stored so much longer this time around), but otherwise my packing expenses should be minimal. I got tons of paper boxes from work, and then hit a bonanza the other day when the college got in a whole bunch of new computers, and the boxes conveniently have little handles on the sides. My boss and I hauled a whole bunch to my car before someone else snatched them up.

My plan is to do almost all of the packing myself over the next few days, then on Saturday I found this local all-female company whom I shall pay an astronomical sum to help me pack my delicate things -- glass and electronics and the like -- and wrap my furniture and then load the PODS. Then the PODS get picked up again on Saturday afternoon and it's just a matter of loading my car and making like a bread truck (hauling buns, that is).

Today, I've also gotta make a few phone calls and run a few errands (dropping off library stuff, buying packing tape, etc.), and then I plan to treat myself to the most incredibly awesome Chinese takeout before I tackle the book-packing and office-packing. I'm trying to spread the packing stuff out so that there's not too much to be done on any one day, but as always I run into the dilemma of, how do I pack this stuff when I may yet need it? Made compound by the fact that I still haven't figured out yet which things I will need to store for the next five months and which should make the trip home with me in my car. My flatscreen TV, for instance. I dunno where I'd put it in my parents' house, but the thought of it rattling around in a POD for half a year makes me very nervous indeed.

So as of today I am feeling pretty stressed but still quite positive and optimistic that this week should go fairly smoothly. I imagine that by, oh, say Wednesday, there will be a quick deterioration in those good moods, but who knows? I may yet just pull this thing off!

Peace out for now!
