The people I work with

Two of our doctors own a cosmetic practice (Vein Center) that moved into our building 18 months or so ago. It is a very small office, one clerical/front desk person and 2 RNs. It is managed by the wife of one of the doctors and she comes in maybe once a week. Total cush job but because they are not busy all of the time they help us with filing, finding charts, filling syringes, etc.

Once a quarter Northside Hosptial has a luncheon at villa Christina for surgery schedulers. our schedulers never get to go because they are too busy. It has always been the Office Manager, Practice Manager and 2 clerical/ non-medical staff persons. My personal favorite is the one around Christmas because not only do we get a delicious lunch we get a 5 minute massage. Now I have worked at my job for 5 years and I just learned that it was for surgery schedulers.

Last Wednesday Cathy, Jessica, and 2 others went to the luncheon. I was in the kitchen when Debi (Vein Center front desk person) asks where they are going. I tell her to the Northside luncheon. This is a fairly accurate recalling fo the conversation:

Debi: Why didn't we hear about it?
Me (very sarcastically): It's only for REAL doctor's offices.
D: We're not a real office?
M (again sarcastically): No. YOU'RE just COSMETIC.

Now at this point I thought we were just joking. She was laughing and playing along. Turns out Debi has no sense of humor.

Apparently she went back to her office and stewed about this for a full day. Decided it wasn't fair and was going to mention it to Donna (their office manager/doctor's wife). Then she gets all pissy with Jessica over kitchen duty which we each get the pleasure of doing once every 2 years or so.

I guess it is true that Tact is for people who aren't witty enough to be sarcastic.
