Mascots and Masochism

Nov 27, 2007 22:30

This morning, the three mascots for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics were released. You can see them all here. All I can say is - hmmm. They're definitely cute and very anime-styled, and that doesn't bother me - but the fact that two of the three mascots are hybrids (a bear/killer whale and a whale/thunderbird/wooly-thing) is kinda lame. It's as if the organizers said, "We have so many ideas we like, but have to make choices - so let's mash them all together!"

At least the Sasquatch is awesome, and genuinely British Columbian. (So are bears and whales, but Sasquatch, even moreso.) Of course, I've got a bias, thanks to that "Hrar" character that my family has inadvertantly created over the years. (It's a long story.)

The commute to work was awful today. I barely managed to make it on time, thank God. What happened that in the tunnel there was a massive accident where there was a head-on collision between cars in the counterflow lanes - and there were fatalities which, of course, kept the tunnel closed. For five hours.

Yikes.

I think I accidentally jinxed my work today. Either that or it was an omen of sorts, when I was talking to a co-worker, saying that we finally have enough bank tellers to keep the bank running smoothely without people losing their minds. Turns out that by day's end, one of our co-workers is regretfully and amicably leaving - so she can get married in China before the Chinese New Year to her boyfriend of many years. It's really sweet and nice and all, and I couldn't be happier - but selfishly I'll miss her as she's one of the few in the branch that is close to my age bracket and only the second "good friend" co-worker I've lost while on the job. But hey - true love conquers all, right? I'd do the same for Kat and I when our time comes. ;)

PS - Habs won. Leafs still got a point. I just wonder if they still got a GM by tomorrow morning.
