Tonight I looked up various postgrad courses online and decided I will not do the UTS Grad Cert in Editing after all. I read through it and realised that of the three subject components:
One I had completed as an undergrad (ie. narrative or non-narrive writing)
The second I had already learned about in my current role as a marketing assistant - the marketing aspects of the job are well known to me, and it is almost ironic really - I would do really well at the subject if I had to do it -because one of the assignments is to design the Books Alive campaign and I already -do- stuff related to that!
And the third...the third is the actual editing part, but I know the editing/proofing marks, I know how to proofread, and so on. All in all, for the dinero it would cost me I don't feel as if I would be picking up enough.
So I had a look at the Macquarie course and that looks much more promising. Not only that, it is by correspondance for the Grad cert and that can then be upgraded to the diploma when one is ready and then even to the Masters (if really needed...)
And I also realised I should write more. Yes, or yea verily, sayeth I who have the best of new years resolutions. Write with focus, with intent, and for the mighty dollar. I actually know what I want to do and who I want to be for once in my life. It's a rather delicious feeling. No wonder I have creative sprouts of foot drawing and painting and candlewax dripping. Bits of self trying to get out and inflict themselves on the world and the pen has dried up so they have to come out some other way.
(Note, I have eaten a hunk of Cheese and may Dream tonight)
