so we had a meeting at the new rock gym location today. this place is going to be fucking amazing. they had a model for a loose idea of how the gym was going to be layed out. and it's HUGE. it's literally twice the size of the existing gym and the walls are going to have so many different angles and faces. it really sucks because this gym is going to be so awesome but is so going to be opening around the time i'm planning on leaving for los angeles. but who knows, plans always change. i might not even have enough money saved up by then either. or maybe i'll get a better position - possibly coaching. i would like to move out to california by march though - the climbing out there will probably be fantastic that time of year.
DR [the owner of prg inc.] got us all really excited today. i mean, we're usually all pretty excited about everything that's going on, but this was nice. he's a really smart guy and is straight forward with us all. i'm really lucky to work for this guy. i've learned a lot from him and he really has a great attitude toward climbing. we were talking today about how sponsers are really trying to turn climbing into the next skateboarding or whatever - everyone plastered with logos and turning it into a money making machine - and how he completely despises this - which is why he's going to eventually open up a third gym somewhere.
we also talked about how awesome the whole climbing community is. i've said this before plenty of times but it really is the nicest scene i've ever been apart of. people just become friends like that *snaps fingers*. people who climb 10 times harder stuff than you still talk to you like you're doing the same thing. i've never had so many friends that weren't my age, that are just so different from me in general - the amount of money they make, the way they dress, the music they listen to... it's all irrelevant. it's about pushing yourself. it's about doing your best. when i was just beginning again i was climbing v2s and 3s [on a scale of 0-10 [there are a handful of people who have done up to v15s]] i had people coming up to me telling me to try v6s and 7s and showing me how to get better because they saw i was really trying. and it's safe risk too. we're [climbers] not entire thrill seekers but not safety nuts either. thrill seeking is jumping out of a plane and pulling a cord at the last second possible and hoping you don't deck. sure we climb cliffs and take big falls, but we're generally always safe about it. yes there's risk but it's perceived risk, not actual risk. and that's why it's so fun.
i'd love to rant more but i've got some art projects sreaming my name.
my body is really sore today. that good sore from when you're building muscle. i'm glad i'm working tomorrow because otherwise i know i'd be climbing and then i wouldn't get to recover and build those muscles up properly. i think next monday i'm going to start another master cleanse. i can't believe it's been so long since the last one i've done. i brought maple syrup up to my house but like a jackass completely forgot the lemons and water. i also forgot to get the manual for my recording studio and didn't take my laundry home [although we just got a washer and dryer put in here at the house today.
ANYWAY, if anyone ever wants to go climbing please ask. it's really not as hard as it may appear at first glance and it's definitely a shit ton of fun. and it'll be cheaper since i can teach you how to do all the stuff instead of just going to take a lesson.
