Summertime.....

Jul 01, 2012 15:58

How time flies. June is already gone and 1/3 of summer with it..... and that's my cup half empty part of this weekend. ;P

I finally got my ass out for a walk this morning and loved the smell of still moist earth. It's been raining quite a lot lately and temperatures have been on the lower end. Today has been quite warm though. The day started out totally overcast but by the time I got nearer home sun was already out and I realised the light fleece jacket I had on was a bit too much.

What I love about walking out in the forest is the changing scenery. Different plants and different smells depending on what time of the year it is. Lot of the more 'showy' plants have already bloomed and now it's mostly weeds and hay, LOL! It always amazes me how many different types of thistle we've got. The biggest of them are almost taller than I am. The flowers are very pretty though. When you get in deeper into the forest it almost feels like you are miles away from everything. On quiet days like Sundays you can't even hear the buzz of the main road near by. That's all an illusion of course but it's still nice and relaxing. I especially like to go early in the morning as there is hardly anyone around. I like my solitude.

The first of wild strawberries have ripened. They are small but oh, so very sweet tasting. There are quite a few of them around in certain areas. Looks like we are going to get plenty of blueberries this year, as well as wild raspberries. Unless it gets very hot and dry or cold all of a sudden. I'm keeping an eye on then, heh. I also saw loads of unripe apples when I went past some of the apple trees in the area.

I think I'll go and have another bite of the rhubarb pie I just made. It tasted divine with ice cream and coffee.....

Some wild strawberries from 2006 :)
