Rhys remembered Gwen joining the police. Young and idealistic; she wanted to change the world.
Slowly Rhys watched as the realities of bureaucracy and red tape wore her down.
He wanted to hold her tight and tell her she was making a difference to the individuals she helped.
Then she joined Torchwood and the spark was back.
She couldn’t talk about her work but that was ok because he could tell she wanted to.
Not anymore.
Rhys called her on it, to be met with denial. But the way her eyes lit up when her boss arrived said it all.
