Start at the Prologue
Previous chapter - Chapter 13
“Let me talk to her. I can still save her. Save all of us.” Ianto appealed to his colleagues, “She's not a
monster.” He wasn’t going to give in. he wasn’t going to throw away all of their hard work during these last few months of hell. There was still a chance that Lisa was in there, he wasn’t going to lose her to the metal monster or to his colleagues.
Just then Lisa stepped out into the Hub. Before he had chance to think about what he was doing Ianto felt his feet move and he was walking across the gantry towards her.
“ Ianto!” Gwen exclaimed, chasing after him before Jack stopped her.
Ianto wasn’t listening, “Lisa ...”
she turned to face him and he raised his hands to the side in a placatory gesture, “It's me,” he begged her to recognise him.
"You can't just let him go ...” Jack shushed Gwen and she fell silent, raising her torch to watch the tableau unfolding before them.
Lisa surveyed her surroundings, ignoring her former boyfriend. “The army will be rebuilt from here. This building is suitable.” Her voice was flat, mechanical, devoid of emotion. Ianto’s belief faltered minutely before he caught himself. No, this was still Lisa. He could still save her.
“Who are you?” Jack asked, addressing the Cyberwoman.
“Human point two.” She stated.
“No! Lisa...” she had to be in there somewhere, if only he could make her see…
“So how come you look like human point one?” Jack’s voice contained a smirk and Ianto turned to glare at the Captain. This was his girlfriend they were talking about!
“I do not understand.”
“Look at yourself. Go ahead.”
She turned to see her reflection in the metal panel beside her.
“Remember, Lisa. Remember who you are.” Ianto begged
“The upgrade is incomplete.” She replied sounding sad, showing the most emotion he had seen from her since he left her to go back to her room with Dr Tanazaki. It scared him that she would pick that to be upset by, but he grasped at it like a drowning man clutching at straws.
“You're still human.” He stepped closer to her, risking everything to make her see.
“I am ... disgusting. I have ... I am ... wrong.”
Ianto’s heart clenched, “We can help you.” Ianto stepped closer still.
“I must start again. Upgrade properly.”
“For God's sake! Have you heard yourself?” Ianto move closer still. Lisa didn’t acknowledge him, she was still staring at her reflection. “Lisa, please,” he begged, “I brought you here to heal you. So we could be together.”
Finally she turned and looked at him and Ianto allowed himself the tiniest ray of hope. Maybe he was getting through to her. Maybe they could help her. Maybe he could save her.
“Together. Yes.” She smiled, “Transplant my brain into your body.”
The bottom fell out of Ianto’s world. The fragile deception he had managed to uphold to convince himself shattered apart. This was not his Lisa.
“The two of us ... together. Fused. We'll be one complete person. Isn't that what love is?”
“No.” Ianto sobbed in despair.
“Then we are not compatible.” The Cyberwoman stated with no emotion and reached out to grab him by the neck. Ianto barely had time to register what was happening before her cold metal fist clamped around his neck in a death grip and he was being lifted off the floor. Ianto flew through the air and landed across the Hub at the edge of the water pool. A moment’s pain then everything went black.

Ianto woke to warm lips pressed to his, a tongue caressing his own, cradled in strong arms. As he woke, Jack pulled back and gestured for him to be quiet. Ianto looked into the Captain’s eyes, dazed and confused. Whatever was going on, it was going to be ok. Jack had got him.
Then he heard Lisa’s scream.
