Waking up early was no problem for Aerith, even though she had spent most of that previous night dragging Yuna around the city for what seemed to be hours on end. Although, the summoner had been out before her, which meant her body subconsciously demanded a couple more hours of sleep than usual ( ... )

He didn't have to wait for long, but Zack didn't expect to either. Aerith had always been an early riser, and as the flower girl pulled the door open, Zack flashed her with a brilliant smile.

She was wearing her summer dress again, and he couldn't help but notice how nice she looked in it. Then again, Aerith probably had the knack to make a garbage bag look attractive on her, he thought fondly.

"The beach would have to be completely frozen over before I'd never be ready," Zack announced cheerfully before offering his arm to Aerith out of habit, "Is the lady ready for a day of fun and smoothie goodness herself?"

Zack's smile had Aerith returning the gesture, finding his brightness always to be contagious. At first she had just been dazzled and flustered, but thankfully years of maturation and exposure left her immune. ...For the most part.

"Of course she is," she replied happily, grasping onto his arm without even a moment's hesitation. Curiosity had her hip lightly bumping up against him to keep his attention as she asked, "How was your night? Did you have fun? Did you get sick?"

"Well good~ since I went through all the trouble of thinking up of a new smoothie combination today. I'd hate for it to go to waste," There was no hiding the amused chuckle at her reply and he found whatever reservations he'd been feeling before drifting entirely from his mind.

Her small hip bump drew his attention back as they made their way out of the inn. Zack's expression was one of pure innocence as he smiled. "It was a great night," He admitted. Zack purposefully left it short, not just to tease her, but because it was probably best she didn't know what they'd gotten up to. Glancing down at Aerith, he winked flirtatiously, "And I'm as fit as a fiddle. It's one advantage of being SOLDIER - any hangovers don't last for long at all."

Returning the gentle gesture, Zack playfully tapped his hip back against her's as he asked, "And how about your night? Keep yourself out of any mischief?"

"Really?" Aerith's eyes widened a little. "I bet it's nowhere as amazing as my combination," she teased with a small laugh. For such a silly conversation, she was feeling absolutely at ease. Her emotions were still running high, but they were containable. She would enjoy herself and make sure he did too. The inevitable conversation could wait until later, and Aerith pushed it to the back of her mind.

A great night? Well... vague indeed, but his innocence didn't fool her. Cloud admitted he went a little wild when drunk, and she had a feeling Zack wasn't much better. "If you got Cloud in a dress again, I hope you took pictures," she murmured casually, catching herself smiling as he winked. "Good, because you're gonna need diligence for the ocean! Otherwise you might get swallowed up," Of course she was only teasing but... then again she wasn't. She really needed to get over silly fears that developed in the Slums in gossip.

Her lips twitched into a small smirk as she leaned her head back to regard him, "It was a great night," she ( ... )

"Oh ho~ now you've definitely caught my curiosity, Aerith my dear. I guess we're just going to have to see which combination is the most amazing," He playfully teased. They'd both probably be pretty damn good, if he was being honest, but it was always enjoyable having this sort of playful banter.

Zack still had every intention of keeping what had happened between 'the boys', but he found himself entirely distracted by Aerith's sudden casual comment, "Spike dressed in drag?" He asked with wide eyes, "If he did I hope that you took photos of that." There was a snicker in his voice as he said that, before he reached over to comfortingly pat the top of her hand as he smiled at her, "Oh I think I've got just enough diligence for that."

Her laugh only seemed to keep the fond smile on his lips before he shook his head in amusement, "I never had any doubt," He murmured happily, "I'm just glad to hear that you both had a great night."

"You could just surrender now," she offered, giving him her best angelic smile. "I have good taste, you know ( ... )

"Me? Surrender? Never!" Despite his 'proud' words, there was a laugh that accompanied them right along with it. He was almost going to say something about her having good tastes, but he thought better of it and simply replied with an amused, "You most certainly do."

Zack had seen Cloud in just about everything but a dress, but he still found himself highly amused at the thought. Cloud had the right feminine aspects to his features to pull it off. There was no way he could have. He whistled at the thought before glancing down at Aerith in amusement, "Should I take a wild stab in the dark and suggest that you were the one who put him up to it ( ... )

"Okay, okay," Aerith held her free hand up as a white flag. "I like a good challenge anyway!" Her smile turned into a grin as he concurred with her, and her hold on his arm tightened affectionately. It wasn't like he could make a crack about that comment, as he happened to be in the category of 'good taste ( ... )

"You really went all out on that," He murmured in amusement. There was a small part of his mind that wondered if that was the time that Cloud had worn women's underwear. Probably, and it was a thought that made him inwardly snicker. "Good job in getting him to wear a tiara, by the way."

A little bit of complaining never hurt anyone, but he was glad that Aerith finally managed to get out of the slums and see more of the world. It was something he had wanted to do with her, but there simply hadn't been enough time. "I'm really glad to hear that you got to head out and travel," He murmured happily as they finally approached the beach.

There were a few more people out here than there were before, and he found that he couldn't help but agree with Aerith's assessment. "The beach is good for that," He said in full agreement. Glancing down, he smiled encouragingly at Aerith as he asked, "So ready for that dip?"

She really had, but found that men dressing as women needed to go to the full extent. Cloud had femininity naturally, but Aerith wanted to be sure he'd pass as a female without even a second glance. "Why thank you," she giggled. "I'm proud of myself ( ... )

"Hell I'm proud of you," Zack wasn't kidding either. Just the thought of seeing Cloud in a dress would have been worth the trouble of convincing the blonde ( ... )

Aerith grinned, but said nothing to that. Sure, now it seemed a far fetched, but at the time when he had Zack's characteristics it wasn't so difficult to imagine.

"Well...you said the mountains were as tall as the sky," she eyed him with feigned wariness. "I saw the peaks, mister!"

She laughed in delight as he joined her pace, dropping the jog into a walk towards the sea. "Right! We've gotta grab life by the reigns, you know!" She turned back to the shore, and boldly began stepping into the water. It was chilly, but not unpleasantly so. Aerith glanced to Zack, and squeezed his hand a little, "Just... don't stray away, okay?"

Zack gasped at her accusation before he pouted playfully. "Hey, I was there on a cloudy day," He playfully whined in his defence. Not that he minded at all, and he was happy to see her playing along.

There was a sense of pride seeing Aerith so boldly walking into the water as if she'd done it hundreds of times before. People may have been dazzled by his smile from time to time, but Zack always found his breath taken away by Aerith's complete spark of life. It had been what had originally drawn her to him, outside of the fall of course, and once he'd noticed it, the SOLDIER had been unable to keep away.

"You know I'd never leave your side, Aerith." Zack warmly murmured as he walked further into the cool water with her. Moving to step around, the SOLDIER reached down to take hold of her other hand as he asked, "So how about we try seeing how you go with swimming? That way you can surprise Spike the next time you see him."

Aerith shook her head stubbornly, but wound up laughing instead. It was hard to banter with Zack having a straight face. She could hardly think of a time when she actually could be seriously upset with him as it was, so joking around was clearly impossible. She didn't bother letting it continue, otherwise he'd be named the victor ( ... )

"I think you already know the answer to that," Zack saw the small smile, and despite better judgement, Zack couldn't help it as he leant in to press a light kiss to her forehead. He might have placed her as second when it came to protecting Cloud's life on that day, and even though he hadn't yet experienced it himself, Zack knew without any shadow of a doubt, that she had been on his thoughts.

The contact didn't last for long and as soon as she grasped his hand in return, the SOLDIER began to move them deeper into the waters. He only went so far that it would cover up to Aerith's shoulders. Zack didn't want her getting overwhelmed at all.

"The first thing about learning how to swim is to have trust in your partner. So forget about the water and the waves, and just focus all of your attention on me," Zack announced as he kept his hold on her hands. He knew there would be no problem in that regard, but he simply had to wait until she felt comfortable enough to begin teaching her how to swim. "Do you trust me enough to do that, Aerith
