Upon deciding to move southward through the castle of Memoria with Vincent and Raines, Rishfee had found himself thinking, moreso than anything. Mainly thinking of what he's seen, the memory of Nashmeira and the isolation that had surrounded the girl- and that had turned to wonder. If, in the reliving of these memories, someone was to change things... act differently, what would happen?
The room of which the trio traversed started to grow dark. Not pitch, but slowly, unnoticably, until one realised they had to strain their eyes to see. The stone floor started to feel less like stone, more like grassland, and if one was to look directly above, they would have seen a sky littered with thousands of stars, a green hued moon, and a certain number of stars glowing in the same colour.
....
Suddenly, he was starving.
His eyes lit in recognition of the surroundings. It was a clearing in the wajoam woodlands, an area of immense beauty and miles upon miles from the empire's gates. He turned to Vincent, to tell him that it was alright- that he knew what was happening; but he could no longer see him. He lowered his head and continued on; coming across a dark-haired girl in the same uniform as him.
"Will you ever stop eating?" The woman's voice was accented, delicate, almost detatched and almost emotionless. Her features had curled though; that which was visible beyond a black viel twisted with scorn. "I'm trying to show you where Vuychap is!"
Rishfee blinked, raising his eyes to the girl's face and allowing a smile to come over his features. Unlike her, he wasn't wearing his viel. He had been taking the opportunity to stuff as many cakes into his mouth as possible. As such, headgear was unneeded.
"Sorry." he responded simply, and the girl folded her arms.
"Honestly. It's the perfect time of year to look at the entire Garuda constellation, the perfect position, and the skies haven't been this clear in months because of the eruptions at mount Zhaylom. If you're more interested in stuffing yourself, why are you here? Surely the teahouse would be a better distraction for you if you're intending to use your free time to become the size of a marid."
"Sorry."
"...Honestly..." she started again, a small sigh of disgust escaping her. "Do you ever do anything but act the idiot? If the Grand Vizier could ever see..."
That caused a reaction. He straightened, and glanced at her. "Amnaf. Do you ever do anything but act the scholar? All you care about recently when you're off duty is what the Grand Vizier thinks. What he sees. You'd sooner come out here, to the middle of nowhere, looking at the constellations because you heard in the court that he's interested in the Celestial Avatars than go to the colluseum or even the temple."
"T-That is not the case! I'm merely here to learn, that is all! The Celestial Avatars are directly linked to the entire reason we're here! All of us! It's nothing to do with my Razfahd!"
Blink.
"Your Razfahd?"
"That is not what I meant!"
The most wicked of smirks soon overcome Rishfee's features.
"Thinking about it, you do favour the Garuda constellation above all others. Wasn't that a story of a bird falling in love with a prince, and concealing it? She saved the prince, but then she exiled herself, thinking the prince would never love her in return. But he came for her... and they spent the rest of their days together, until the great sage Walahra called them both to the heavens..."
Her gaze darkened even more, and she lowered her head in a faux-dignified gesture. The girl's manners were exemplary, and she certainly seemed proper enough for the gesture to be seen as nothing but well-mannered. ...Yet the blush darkening whatever could be seen under her viel gave her away. Well and truly.
"My little sister and the Grand Vizier... How could I have been such a fool to not notice it? Especially when you started enquiring with the Skyserpent General about military defense strategy! It was just a ploy, to get closer to him!
...You've got to be mad, though. All he thinks about is strategy and governmental affairs. Rumours in the court even say he isn't even interested in marriage to one of the princesses of the empire's borders, so for you...
....They'd cut my head off if I were to act anything alike that around a member of the royal--"
Then he had to duck. An entire sweetbread had been aimed at his head.
"Rishfee!"
