Interminable wait it was. The party departing for Terra had already spent hours traveling to the Shimmering Island and now all they had to show for it was circling in the air. The island appeared to be little more than a ring of icebergs. The only thing vaguely unique was the shimmering points of lights that hovered above it, the lights that pilgrims to Esto Gaza called The Path of Souls. The two knights sent as escorts became to murmur between themselves, wondering just when they'd know the barrier had fallen.
Their answer came in the form of a blinding light which erupted from the middle of the island, and set the sky aglow with a rosy hue. So bright it was, that they had to throw their arms up to guard their eyes, and thus, they missed the next of the spectacular showing. Something very like a transparent funnel cloud rose from within, ringed in aqua lights. It started small, then expanded to the inside edges of the icy spikes in the water. The pinpoints of light, the lingering spirits of this world on their way back to the Crystal were suddenly sucked in and pulled through the portal to Terra, as were lingering clouds with the misfortune of being nearby.
The airship raced through the sky to reach the path to Terra before it was discovered or closed. It passed easily through the barrier, once invisible, but now looking like a sheet of water to be pushed aside. More swirls of lights and then the scenery changed from the familiar skyscape of Gaia to the wasteland of Terra. No sign of life, no tree left standing, no blade of grass pushing up from the ground. As far as the eye could see, all that existed was devastation.
Then the roar rang out. Surrounding the Invincible were a dozen Silver Dragons, waiting to strike down Terra's unwanted visitors.
