Being grounded sucked. There was nothing to do! Marlene was so bored. Currently, she was sliding lower and lower on the chair she was sitting on, arms splayed over the arms. A rather large pout was on her face. She was staring off into space in the living room.

"So... bored..."

Marlene's pout could make the sternest of parents melt. So Tifa had to do her very best to ignore it when she came downstairs, passing by Marlene on her way into the kitchen.

Don't give in to the kids. This was very important.

She sunk lower and lower, sighing each time. By the time her feet actually touched the ground, her sighs were loud enough to be heard in the kitchen. She finally scooted herself back up, then pulled her feet up, flipping herself around until her head hung off the seat. Maybe looking at everything upside down would be better.

Nope. She sighed again. "Tifa... how long are we grounded for? This is so boring!"

Tifa came over to the doorway, frowning at Marlene. "Two weeks. That's what we agreed."

It had only been three days so far, and already the children were sighing and pouting. It was going to be a long fortnight.

There was another big pout from Marlene. She let her arms hang over her head, fingertips dangling against the floor. "Isn't there anything we can do?"

Maybe she could convince her adoptive mom to let them out on good behavior.

Oh, big mistake, Marlene. Tifa smiled at her.

"I just washed up. You can come and help dry them."

And she held out a tea towel.

Sulk. Pout. She sighed again. "Fine..."

She didn't mean chores though! She wanted something fun to do! Like play outside, see the sun! Feel the fresh air! Anything but be cooped up inside for two weeks. She slid down off of the chair, marching over to take the towel from Tifa.

Tifa knew that perfectly well and she suppressed a smile as she watched Marlene flounce into the kitchen. It was a small victory though. She didn't really like to see Marlene unhappy.

Following her, Tifa squeezed Marlene's shoulder. "Thank you."

"You're welcome." She muttered out. This was so not what she thought of as fun. These were chores.

Pushing a chair up to the counter, Marlene climbed up carefully so she could have easier access to the dishes.

In the meantime, Tifa went over to the sink to wash the few dishes that were still remaining.

"I'll help you," she said. "See, working together, we'll get them done in no time."
